Hooray, just in case you didn't know Steve Jobs is dead.

    He is definitely dead.

    He is an Ex-Jobs.

He has fallen off the mortal coil.

    Etc....

Will Apple ever do anything that isn't because he is dead?

      @jeebus

I read the book and he was not the most likeable person,

      BUT

Your comments are juvenile, but I expect that success to you would be stacking shelves in a corner shop.

You need to socialise more, get a girlfriend, move out of you parents house, it's not right that a 45 year old still has his pants washed by his 70 year old mother.

Oh dear - pot, kettle and all that.

He does have a point, which is why I think it's a bit early to tell if Apple is no longer Apple. The first thing that happens after you take over from a control freak is that you discover the bits he/she/it (to keep it generic) has been shoving under the carpet because it didn't agree with their "vision". The predecessor has to first remove those bumps from under the carpet, and in such a way that it does not diminish the past glorious leader or the shareholders do a runner (it's not like they're not nervous already - the stupid ones still think they "missed out" on Facebook)..

First job (pardon the pun) is to keep the ship going, the *next* time is when I expect to get an idea where the new captain is taking the company. That's the point where you can judge if the company has a future, or becomes a slow leaking version of the Titanic (i.e. becomes Microsoft under Ballmer).

IMHO it's still too early. Steve's ghost is still lingering, which will not be helping as everything Apple will do will still be somehow attributed to Jobs, for or against. It needs to lose that shadow. The problem is that it may need to lose the shadow, but show new strength in vision. Not quite sure Apple has that yet. As I said, too early.

Looking at the mac buyers guide..

you'd wonder if apple died with Steve. Most of the products haven't been updated for nearly a year or more!

The ones that count have, though it sounds to me there are a few sour grapes here, are you still smarting because your phone hasn't been upgraded to ICS or are you one of those that believed the blurb about the Galaxy Note and bought one?

It's good to criticise apple if it makes you feel better, but as far as I can see they are doing exactly what the normally do with updates and upgrades.

Re: Looking at the mac buyers guide..

I'm not bothered by iphones, ipods or ipads. I'm talking about full computer systems like the Macbook Pro, Mac Pro and Imac. All of which are lagging behind current technology.

They're far behind the usual updates for the Mac Pro and Imac and tbh the last macbook pro update was pretty minuscule.

I'm not moaning because I have an issue with Apple, I'm moaning because my Apple tech is getting outdated and can't keep up with what I want to do. I could go elsewhere, sure, but I like Apple stuff. I don't want to get into an argument over 'its the same as over x86' stuff cos it's not. The screens are amazing, the comfort is amazing and generally you're actually getting quite a lot for your money.

Re: Looking at the mac buyers guide..

If it ain't broke don't fix it. The current iMacs/Macbooks/Mac Minis are still selling, so why justify another release with minimal hardware upgrades?

If you seriously understood the money power Apple has now, they can afford to sit back, wait for the best tech to be justifyable at the right price when bought in mass. HiDPI screens, BT 3.0, USB3 (maybe), cheaper and larger SSDs. You look at the rest of the computer market, it's still moving relatively slow. The upgrades are coming, but hey; if you had a Mac, you'd know they last donkeys longer than your average Dell/HP/Asian PC before an upgrade is neccessary.

One Dell laptop here still going strong. Made before Apple switched to x86. If you looked beyond your Mac you'd be less susceptible to this cheesy lasts longer sales pitch.

Well, well. I do wonder how many times you've had to abuse your Dell warranty + rebuild Windows on it. I think I win that one knowing that particular Dell's had horrible design flaws (early XPS 1330 I owned) there were never rectified nor did Dell want to acknowledge them.

I admit the current designs iMac/MacPro are starting to show their age. they still look and pushing through the test of time.

    How do you know ?

"While he won't be on stage to promise "one more thing," " - how do you know that ?

He might have pre-recorded a short message telling us how magical Apple TV is going to be - in his official biography he said he's worked out the UI... you know how Superman's dad left him pre-recorded messages ? Steve Worked magic.

Wow, this is great, I can type in my dreams.
