'Brandy Palm, blogging from inside the eight-feet tall pod, declared: "This is an incredibly important issue for me personally.'
Get a life, Brandy.
Silicon Valley cops arrested two Greenpeace activists who sealed themselves into a huge (i)Pod outside Apple HQ today, but chose not to cuff another bunch of activists who were dressed as giant iPhones. Greenpeace has been chastising the Mac and iOS firm for the last few years for not exactly being the freewheeling, earth- …
Is the pod air tight?
If not, can we make it air tight?
I'm just trying to help the Greenpeace-ers here - I'm sure they don't want to pollute the atmosphere with their horrible greenhouse gas emissions of CO2 and CH4.
Nuke, because were they serious about the environment they'd be for it.
And nobody really pays any attention to the attention whores.
(outside of arresting a couple for blocking foot traffic with a Fischer Price Teletubby playhouse.)
Seriously, going after Apple for using nasty-nasty coal genenerated power? I suppose all the protesters have monitors on all their outlets to block it from their homes, since after all, some of the electricity coming off the grid and into their homes is coal generated.
Greenpeace accused Apple of using dirty coal power for its new datacenter, Apple put out a press release stating the entire 20 megawatts it used would be generated via solar panels and biogas (from a nearby landfill, turned into electricity with Bloom fuel cells) Greenpeace then accused Apple of lying about the amount of power its datacenter used, saying a datacenter that size would consume 100 megawats.
I must have missed the part where Greenpeace are such experts they are able to determine the amount of power a building will use, when they only fact they know about it is its size and that it is a datacenter.
I have a feeling that even if Apple produced the utility bills showing $0 in utility electric usage, Greenpeace would still claim they are lying. If Greenpeace really cared about dirty coal power they'd go picket in China where the coal power is much much dirtier than it is anywhere in the US.
Instead they camp on Apple's front lawn because:
1) Anything involving Apple will get them in the news
2) They feel guilty using iPhones knowing they aren't as green as the alternative of two cans connected by twine (but they are fine with Foxconn employees committing suicide, fewer people on the planet consuming resources is a good thing in their eyes)
3) Camping on Apple's lawn is a much cushier protest than camping out in Antarctica to protest something involving penguins
4) Sunnyvale's jail is a lot nicer than the Chinese prison they'd get tossed in if they tried protesting like this in front of a business using dirty Chinese coal power
If only Greenpeace would consider their actions more carefully...
Because IMO they do have a point; it is important to try and limit the use of energy so that we'll last longer. But actions like these are not the way to do it. Worse: they'll most likely have the exact opposite effect as can be seen above.
Trying to force people or companies into doing something has never worked, and will only come to bite you in the behinds. Laser beaming messages; and in the end you'll only hinder people who only want to do their job and actually /earn/ a living for themselves. Job nicely done indeed.
Making people and governments aware will have much more effect. And trying not to overdo stuff and pulling into ridiculous scenario's helps too.
Example: In Holland there was a speedway all build and ready; approx. 15km of asphalt sitting ready to be used and help take traffic loads away from another busy (and because of that dangerous) highway.
Yet it couldn't be used. Because environmentalist groups (subsidized by the government no less) had filed complaints and managed to postpone the official opening of the road for at least 1.5 years. And to what end? Everything was done, all was ready and approved. No, IIRC they demanded another investigation.
Finally everything was put in place and the road has been used ever since. But actions like that do not help people understand nor appreciate, quite the opposite.
IMO this is no different. Quite a shame too because as mentioned above; I do agree that we need to work on conserving energy. Every little bit can help, but not with (IMO) idiotic actions like these.
Greenpeace will see this as a win. They'll be patting each other on the back saying "Look at all the publicity we've got, now everyone will hear our message!".
It's true, this article brought their complaint to my attention, but I'm more annoyed at their bullshit stunts than the issue they're complaining about. Especially since they're using iDevices.
It's the same old retards who have nothing to do in life, don't fit in with normal society and want to get some attention.
I like many others believed that Apple was as socialist loony lefty company that had ideals so far removed from my own that I found it difficult to support them.
The fact that Apple don't pander to the ridiculous loony left and the anthropogenic climate change goons just improves their standing as far as I am concerned.
