back to article Qualcomm runs out of chips as punters wolf down SnapDragons

Qualcomm can't make its Snapdragon chips fast enough, forcing some companies to consider alternatives while waiting for supplies of the 28nm powerhouse. Responding to question during a conference call on earnings, archived by Seeking Alpha, Qualcomm reps admitted they'd failed to gear up production fast enough and were now …

    Qualcomm moving to GloFo

Qualcomm is moving production to GloFo to resolve supply issues with TSMC.

TSMC and supply issues in the same sentence? only for the last decade at least.

    Thumb Up

    Android then

Seems like the vast majority of these chips are flying off the shelves in Android handsets.

it's a fruit eat worm world.

Given that the fruit-company is on the same chip diet, something tells me that - OTHERS will suffer. AFAIK Qct is the top dog WRT LTE chipsets unless NVidia (with their Icera LTE solution) or HiSilcon (Huawei's back end chip factory) or Renesas (you do remember them don't you, they come in the Nokia flavour) come riding in fast. BTW its not just the LTE devices that will suffer 'cause there are at least 2 more HSPA+ chips on Qct roadmap (HTC 'Bride's maid' is based on one of those) are on 28nm. So Qct's loss is NVidia's gain even though NVidia's chips run hotter and they still don't have an integrated chipset (BaseBand + app processor).
