Why do people keep insisting on calling it the "So-called" great firewall of China.

There is no contention about the existence of the thing, and that is the chosen name for it.

Because it IS so-called. It's a nickname. The Chinese calls it the "Golden Shield project".

And hillbillies call themselves "sons of the soil" but we ain't ever going to call them that.

They are only blocking blasphemy. People who say bad things about the baby Jesus don't deserve to be heard, do they?

How do you say bad things about someone who never even existed?

It's like arguing if Darth Vader is more evil than the Emperor, they both don't exist beyond fantastical conversations.

Darth Vader is more evil than the Emperor? Duhhh, I don't think so. Darth Vader is a characterization good being misled into evil whereas the Emperor is an incarnation of evil itself.

But, and this is a big but. The emperor was always evil, and his intentions were always the same, an argument could be made that those corrupted are worse because they knew the right path before choosing the dark side.

It's a big issue to go into.

It's an Islamic country, so it would be saying bad things about the prophet Muhammed surely? I think you're confusing Pakistan with the USA; I know they both have slight fundamentalist tendencies in places so I guess it's easy to do ;)

No. Mohammed is the central figure in Islam, but Jesus is considered a prophet also and therefore criticism of Jesus could also be considered blasphemy by muslims (and punishable in countries like Pakistan).

Actually no. It has morphed into anything negative towards even the name Mohammed. In fact, not so long ago someone was charged with blasphemy for tearing up a business card of a guy named Mohammed and throwing it in the trash so we can expect much of the same strangeness from any online laws.
