back to article Bulletproof iPhone case set to survive shootouts

We've seen some odd smartphone cases over our time, but this bullet-proof beast, heavy enough to crush a chap's toes, is a fine contender for the crown. Madurai's Armoured Case 1 for iPhone 4/4S weighs in at 2.1kg and warns of serious injury should it be dropped on a hapless hoof. Madurai's Armoured Case 1 It is apparently …

    Bloody expensive paper weight!

So it's overpriced, overhyped, and not nearly as useful in the real world as the initial advertisements suggest. And now someone is making a bullet-proof case for it?

    1. DrXym

Yes but it served its purpose and got press attention. Someone could produce a dog shit cologne and as long as they recommend you spray it on your iPhone it would be picked up by the press.

wow that went over your head a bit now didn't it ;)

I know fanboyz can get a bit over zealous in their comments, but this is going a bit far to protect yourself, just because you have a jesus phone...

    In fashion still?

I thought the US urban fashion for wearing bullet-proof jackets had passed? If it hasn't, then this would make a good accessory!

That said, for this money it would be better to buy a spare iPhone. If both get hit by bullets, then take that as a hint to get off my lawn!

It just looks wrong. And it doesn't even come bundled with http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/01/20/bulletflight_iphone/ What does Lewis Page have to say about it?

Take a direct hit can it?

Assuming you shoot it from the back.... the front is a little exposed

      It's fine from the front

In normal use configuration, it is protected by its owner.

    Front?

I can see a whole screen area I could probably kill with a well-swung screwdriver.

You can make bullet-proof glass that would protect it from a 9mm round at 1m - but it's about 2" thick in itself.

No need to use touch, you can use Siri.

"Siri, get me a map outta here!

        A MAP FOR OTTOWA

"No! Away fro.." BANG "Siri send a text message with my GPS cordinates to my Medevac insurance company, title: urgent"

Actually, I don't think that Siri would work, what with requiring a data connection and all. Any word on what that metal lump does for your signal?

But can it stop a bullet like a pocket watch or bible?

    I think I maybe want one;

Or conversely, like Woody Allen recounting how the bullet he wore around his neck in memory of his grandfather saved him when he encountered an evangelical preacher lobbing tomes of scripture around:

"If it wasn't for the bullet, that bible would have gone straight into my heart!"

Or from Casino Royale, Woody Allen 007 at firing squad

"My doctor says I can't have bullets enter my body at any time"

    Ideal product for...

..the next smartphone shootout! Sure the iPhone may not have all features of the competitors' handsets, but if submitted within this enclosure, it should survive and [technically] win the shootout..

    But...

How would it fare against an iEedee?
