A serial entrepreneur with a penchant for sales has made Cisco Systems an offer that it most certainly can refuse and also snicker at: $1, plus a 15 per cent equity stake, in rival SalesCrunch if Cisco hands over its WebEx online meeting biz. Wait and see

Cisco also paid $500m for Flip, a maker of USB video cameras - on the basis that people would post videos online and youtube would have to buy more network gear.

They shut it down, laying off 600 engineers and a lot of dumped product.

Perhaps Cisco should go into the wine and lingerie business on the basis that baby photos get posted online and so they should encourage sex to sell more routers

      Re: Wait and see

Yeah, Cisco is clueless, they easily beat that uber-incompetent ex-CEO Apotheker's nightmarish course at HP.

Now after they alienated every big guy by entering their core market (servers), with rather buggy gear (UCS), getting beaten in their own core market (routers/switches/etc) left and right (gear is overpriced, TAC is overpriced, brand isn't really unique anymore etc) Cisco seems to have fallen to the point when they just throw everything at the wall, hoping some of it will stick...

      Sad, indeed.

You forgot their master strategy =

1, We are known for high end enterprise network gear when reliability matters.

2, Lets buy linksys and stick our name on every bit of cheap crap sold in BestBuy

3, Customers stop buying Cisco gear for their business because Cisco = cheap crap

Hehe, true... but you left out their old PR antics: sprinkling shoddy anonymous videos and trashing their biggest competitors in them eg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WTQzR3mtZ80

          Are they still doing this?

I know they used to but I think they are now only do public stuf eg http://www.overpromisesunderdelivers.net/
