Does this mean that if I buy a film on iTunes it won't be delivered to me at all? Is this only true if I am an HBO customer? Is this only a problem if I have downloaded it before, but have lost the local copy and want to download it again?
Any ideas?
This is just a problem with re-downloads, a bit like music was working before the recent iCloud changes.
In essence once you download a movie to iTunes from one of these companies you can't re-download it again, e.g. to an Apple TV.
Of course you can keep watching your existing iTunes copy anywhere and whenever you want as long as you have access to it., via Home Sharing for example. If you lose your local copy you're stuffed (for now at least)
The main issue seems to be that re-downloads will now be at 1080p and not 720p as before, so I guess the studios want more money...

No, keep and add to the cash mountain, currently IIRC it's about $100bn against market valuation of $500bn - I'm waiting until they've got so much money in the bank that they get taken over with the loan for the takeover being paid off the next day from the cash in the bank. On that day, I'll LOL.

That doesn't really follow from the facts you presented. From the facts you presented, the more logical conclusion would be that these "old dinosaurs" are much better at getting and holding on to exclusivity agreements -- usually at the expense of the "decent price" component.
Article makes sense. Sure, more stuff is coming via the internet, but it's still a small percentage, and old media are still the gatekeepers whatever the platform.

Does netflix threaten pay-tv subscriptions, or just bankrupting blockbuster?
I think the last proper push at unseating normal telly was Joost, which I think they eventually closed.
I'm not clear on the question, but if you're asking "Is there a web service which would make a Sky customer give up their subscription?" - then yes: I cancelled mine, and switched to Netflix. Far, far cheaper, and "stuff" I'm interested in, on demand.
I had hoped to do this with Netflix, I was very excited about the prospect of ditching sky. However (and everyones viewing is different) for me Netflix is nowhere near a replacement for subscription tv. No current tv series, no current movies, no sport. Great if you are happy with lesser and slightly older moveis and great if you don't want to watch the current series of anything and aren't interested in sport.....
Netflix has a long way to go, I personally hope they get there because while running the trial I have been very impressed with the quality of the streams and the service in general, unfortunately, as they say, content is king.
