back to article Ron Paul’s web campaign mired in pokey pages

An analysis of the web-page performance of candidates in the 2012 US presidential elections shows disappointing results for Ron Paul, supposedly one of the more internet-savvy candidates in the race. Web-optimization specialists Yottaa studied the composition, load speeds, and overall time before a candidate’s web site could …

are you contending for the lamest anti-paul propaganda award?

while i'm sure dr. Paul's site could be better, i fail to see how a 556KB "site" is a fair comparison to a cms given the duty of raising millions from citizens from all over the country. i'm not going to give any of those frauds the hits to find out, either! Your beloved scumbags don't need to raise money from everyday voters to have sellouts like you sing their praises, do they.

Ron Paul ... largest online support networks ... bottom of the list

Then surely that fact alone proves that website load times have no bearing on online support for presidential candidates?

Attempting to liken "democracy" to "ecommerce" probably says a lot about modern politics.

"Ron Paul, who has one of the largest online support networks in US"

Perhaps that means his site is the busiest and therefore less responsive?

Nah .. he just has a technically badly done site (no wonder when using wordpress rather then using an optimized site). Quick look at it shows me he is fetching 14 CSS files, 33 Javascript files and 4 large font files. The little map of the US at the bottom alone makes a 100 roundtrips to load an outline of each state (50*normal and 50*hover).

A lot of that should and could be combined (css/js/sprites/etc) ... The website has 230+ objects and you could probably bring that down below 50 or so. Also, a lot of the objects are fetched from the server instead of from the faster CDN.

There is another important factor in here:

"...175 data round trips from 20 different domains..."

That's 175 chances that something is being fetched from somewhere outside the direct control of the site you are looking at, any one of which could be swapped out for something moody without the controlling webmaster being able to prevent it or even knowing about it.

        I'm horrified.

fetched from the server instead of... CDN.

Please explain? (I only know basic HTML).

How do you tell that content is fetched from the 'Contend Delivery Network', and how do you change the site to use the CDN instead of the server?

Is the free market rejecting Ron Paul?

Alluding to your own arse when talking about Santorum is something of a mistake IMHO.....

Am I the only one ...

... changing "Ron Paul" lawn-signs to read "Rue Paul"?

Regardless, the Rs in this race are far worse than the Ds ...

Anyone who thinks the Obama administration has failed after a couple-three years of trying to clean up after the last couple decades probably has no understanding of real-world politics ... It took decades to trash, it'll take decades to fix.

re: no understanding of real-world politics

That's the majority of the electorate accounted for then. :-(

    2. Figgus

Except it's obvious to anyone who can do math, logic, or even run a business that those "fixes" are steps in the wrong direction. You can only go so far punishing success and rewarding failure before people catch on that you're just mucking things up even more.

That said, Obama certainly was one of the first to use the digital age effectively in his campaign. Gotta give the man some credit for that.

    Obvious explanation......

I'm sure his supporters will believe that the poor performance is sabotage by the CIA, the Federal Reserve, the Trilateral Commission etc etc

    1. Gordon 14

As The candidate sporting the most John Birch Society and Stormfront endorsements I'm sure they could also blame his poor performance on flouridation of the water supply, The Civil Rights Act, and various conspiracies to steal our purity of essence.

Obiously that fact that some people Might notice that his objections aren't really to having a police state, They're to having the feds police the states. Since if the states themselves want to legislate 'those people' people into the ground they'd be perfectly entitled to once he'd gutted the fereal governments ability to police the states.

      1. Figgus

I dunno about you, but I have a lot more say at my state government than I do in Washington. I have an even louder voice at my county and city government.

The closer you are to those making the decisions, the more likely those decisions will be the correct ones. Even the vikings knew that one.

And, if a state went awry like you propose (California, Illinois, or New York would be my bets) then you could always move to a part of the ship that wasn't sinking. As it is now, the Federal government is going down that path and you'll have to go to Canada to get away from it. It is better to have 50 states representing 50 choices than 1 country with no choice at all.

    Performance

I'd rather a big page that's got something worth reading than a fast page that doesn't.

Also I see 5 domains coming up when I load Ron's page:

    youtube

    sharethis

    ytimg

    rackcdn

    ronpaul2012

So, according to your hypothesis stripping out the videos would improve the site.... Metric Fail, please return with new measures.

    Thumb Down

    Oh great

Now website performance is part of the appreciation metrics of a presidential candidate.

We're not going to hell in a handbasket, we've arrived.

    Ron Paul is the best

Is this a joke? How about judging a candidate on his policies and voting record? Ron Paul is the last chance the US has before we hit rock bottom
