as in any branch of Carphone Warehouse near where I work, there assistants are always unavailable or there is a very long queue.
Or they harrangue you to try and sell you some tat that isn't what you went in for, although I concede his interest is likely to be the former of these two scenarios
I go into Carphone Warehouse (actually, I don't, but let's assume I do). I see a phone I like, and I tap a code into my phone. Then I pick up the phone and walk out? And nobody stops me?
Of course all the phones on display are dummies, and they're tied down to prevent theft by other dummies, so that's not going to work.
But substitute merchandise that's actually available to carry away, and I still don't get it.

Actually I'd be quite interested in being able to scan something from an advertisement on the street and order it right there and then.
The amount of times I've seen something and thought "Oh yes, I need to (compare the price and) order one of those when I get home" then subsequently forgot...
