back to article Twitter update: @regsecurity – The Reg bags imposter

After a flurry of activity, we have gained control of @elreg, a Twitter fan feed with about 5,000 followers. Thank you, Adam Wood, for looking after that for us. We have also gained @theregister and @regsecurity after filing trademark abuse reports with Twitter. Thank you, Twitter. @theregister was a moribund RSS-to-Twitter …

    Hard-core Register

As a warning to people, that they should come here to get their fix of Playmobil in SPAAAAAAAACE, bizarre rubbish from around the world, and the odd bit of IT reportage - I think you should point all your twitter pseudo-followers to some hard-core anteater porn.

    That'll learn 'em.

To quote our Prime Minister, "there's a danger that too many tweets make a twat."

    Talk Talk

One of the accounts should be a real person, the others can be RSS bots.

My vote would be for @TheRegister be the RSS bot, and @ElReg be for banter. Only hacks know that El Reg means The Register, let the great unwashed consume tech news from the name they know best.

      Very good plan

There's nothing that bores me more than RSS feed twitter accounts, so I won't be following any for now. But an @elreg 'human' account would be of far more interest.

        +1

Is there really any point in a Twitter RSS feed? Isn't that the whole point of RSS?

          Re: +1

On RSS-to-Twitter. Ours not to reason why, but this is popular with many people.

          Who knew.

too many twits make a twat

Surely @regsecurity should point to static content that says "for your own security, stop using social media like twitter, linkedin and Facebook"

    Someone isn't happy...

...my very good friend Mr Reginald Security is mightily pissed off that you stole his Twatter account.

    Joke

What did the bofh or pfy have to do to get them back? Do they have their own feeds?

Who really cares about twitter & other online branking?

One wonders if there is a profit to be made in figuring out how to apply online scold's bridles ... bozo-filtering & the like is, unfortunately, effectively one-way ...

Agree with Patrick on @elreg being human

(First time commentard, please be brutal. :D )

I was about to suggest that -- let @theregister and @regsecurity be RSS feed stuff, and @elreg be human (with some updates on various projects going on). Monitoring @theregister for feedback will be helpful in case of problems (like hacks to Vulture Central hardware or notices of specials at nearby pubs).

    Aha

Now that you're apparently embracing the Twitters, does that mean el Reg's social media policy will be updated to stop rampant crossposting of identical articles across multiple twitter accounts? (reghardware, regsecurity, regmedia, regmusic etc?)

Mine's the one with the self-penned styleguide in the left pocket

      Re: Aha

Reg Hardware is pretty self-contained - it's the main Reg accounts we need to sort out.
