back to article Unity: 'We'll make a terabit chip by 2014'

Unity Semiconductor thinks its CMOx technology can be the silver bullet the storage industry needs, succeeding NAND with next-generation memory combining DRAM speed and flash non-volatility – with Micron's help. EEtimes reports that Unity COO and co-founder Christophe Chevallier will present a CMOx (Complementary Metal Oxide) …

    Actually:

For novel, read "New or unusual in an interesting way".

Yeah, we only discover physics that's already there, not make new ones up. Unless you think Newton invented gravity ;-)

How else do you think people used to advance in leaps and bounds if not for people having not yet invented gravity?

    This has not been seen.

Isn't it basically just a fraud then?

"It is just one of several post-NAND technology bets..."

Actually I reckon this is the interesting bit.

At some point here the VC funding music is going to stop when one of these technologies proves to be the winner. Everyone else will get to lose their shirts.

    Popcorn please.

    TerraBIT?

So, we can only look forward to a 125 GigaByte chip then? Which of course, isn't, because of the 1024, not 1000...so in reality...a 122GB chip...

Hmm...you know, that just doesn't quite sound very exciting to me.

      So...

Put two chips in your drive then... or two, or four, or 100

DDR Memory sticks tend to have 8 or 16 chips on them

Hard disks usually have several platters.

Crack open a 500GiB SSD and you'll find a damn sight more than one chip in there.
