back to article Smut vid outfit sues PornoTube

A major producer of adult videos yesterday filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles federal court against YouTube clone PornoTube for "allowing its users to post videos that include copyrighted material". Vivid Entertainment Group claims that PornoTube - a subsidiary of Data Conversions Inc, which trades in Charlotte, NC, as AEBN Inc - …

    wow

Kim K. a "superstar". ok but really back on the subject i would suspect that somewhere in the neighborhood of 70% of what is illegally traded would be pron..as a user of P2P most any search I pull comes back mainly with pron. well i guess its a start but it will be interesting to see how this plays out in court. as for Red light going after users thats going to be another interesting battle...

    >the choice of icon is obvious..though i think Paris had some better angles then Kim.

    Will make little difference

A lot of the porn on torrent networks is put there by the producers to get people to visit their paysite to get higher quality, advert free porn over a fast connection.

Go on, admit it, you doctored the quote!

"constantly keeping watch for Vivid material popping up without the company's permission".

    Rick is right

If it wasn't for "adult entertainment" and music, I'd probably never touch P2P. But it's true, I do think porn has driven the development of the internet far faster than any other one subject material could.

60% of the net is porn... 35% is illegal... and the other 5% isn't worth bothering with :-)

    Sticky Fingered Thieves...

The porn industry has, up until now, been fairly tolerant of piracy - interesting shift in attitude, perhaps because it's now possible to stream full length high quality films?

Or because user generated content in porn is threatening the studios - after all, amateur YouTube films can't ever achieve the same quality as a Hollywood flick, but amateur porn can be a better "viewing experience" than studio productions...

Anyway, I only came in here to make a joke about sticky fingered thieves.

    No brains on these guys

Look, if I were somebody who wanted to stick a bunch of trailers out there to get folks to buy my product from me, I couldn't think of a better way to go than Porno Tube. The P2P of a full length Divx is something else, but go after these guys? They got rocks in their head or something. Been watching too much of their own product while they spank the monkey I suppose.

Even more of a losing battle than the RIAA...

... I wonder how many judges want this in their courtroom.

I wonder if this is anything to do with TnA's tracker going down a lot in the past few days (excuse the pun).

    Policeman hey

    "I can't be a policeman, and I don't intend to be."

Funny that, in many a vivid flics cops often get their "trunction" out and lay the "long arm" of the law on offenders..

    Bit of a U turn

I'm pretty sure I read some article (on a techy site, honest) on the self same subject where some geeza from Vivid said they didn't mind P2P etc.. as it was good advertising. Bit of a U turn if my memory is not faulty. Hold on.....

...."Our take on it is a little more like independent bands think," Asher continued. "Until these sites get shut down, we'd rather there be Vivid content on there. Let people get a taste for our movies. For us, it's good advertising. With adult, remember we're putting out a new movie every four days, so what you pirate today will be out of date four days from now."

.....aaaaahhhh, now it all makes sense. The advertising budget just ran out.
