A California website that claimed its "psycho-acoustic simulation" technology meant it could sell Beatles downloads has been ordered to cough up $950,000 to EMI. Bluebeat.com started offering the downloads in 2009 at 25 cents a pop. The too good to be true deal came well ahead of Apple's own tie-up with the fab four and, more …

      Low because...

If you sue a 14 y/o, chances are they will declare bancrupcy and you wont even see enough to pay the lawyers' shoe polishing expenses, so you may as well push it as high as possible to scare the rest of the little people.

But, they have a chance to actually collecting on this one. Wether they will get the whole amount is a different matter, but i would be surprised if they see nothing here.

    Is this "psycho-acoustic simulation" analogous

to what Google is doing to linux header files, but for music?

The title is required, and must contain letters and/or digits.

No, it's kinda like what MP3 does, from the first Google hit: "A harmonic series of pitches that are related 2×f, 3×f, 4×f, 5×f, etc., give human hearing the psychoacoustic impression that the pitch 1×f"

    Thumb Up

    Can I be the first.....

...to purchase the downloadable video content of the psycho-acoustic simulation of the offending company coughing up the cash to settle this fine? It should be quite something to witness!

    Joke

This is a visual pseudoholographic simulation of a title

And I hope they pay up cash, but send it to the court by fax.

    Psycho-acoustic simulation?

AKA psycho-acoustic modeling... isn't that exactly how MP3/AAC audio compression works?

they're not fooling anyone here. All they did was rip tracks to MP3 and claim the compressed version was no longer the original.

    There should be consistency

Every country should agree to a $10,000 fine per copy of pirated works, plus mandatory prison time.
