back to article Apple lands patent blow, but the slugfest continues

Apple has gained ground in the ongoing patent spat with Nokia. The US International Trade Commission (ITC) investigation judge has made an initial determination that Apple isn't infringing five Nokia patents. That means the judge feels Apple isn't infringing on the five patents remaining in this case, and – if the decision …

    Oh what a surprise

A US judge rules that a US company isn't infringing a foreign company patents.

    Now that is a surprise.

BTW I do realise that the US patient system is a load of crap seemingly being able to patient anything (and seemingly prior art counting for nothing)

I want a Gallic shrug icon

Do it the Microsoft way: Use Fear

Apple and Nokia should do it the Microsoft way instead.

Microsoft avoids patent wars with mega-large companies (eg Google), which it would lose, and instead goes around suing lesser handset companies like HTC and Motorola, whereby Microsoft frightens those companies, enabling it to extract its protection money, while never having the claim tested in court.

    Desperation

With Nokia being as innovative as motor oil flavoured denture paste and losing money like a fishnet water bottle I guess the lawsuit must be a double whammy attemp to claw some reputation back in this saturated mobile market.

Should Nokia be successful, they get kudos and claim some fame for the world's favourite yuppie phone as well as much needed cash.

And if they faiil? Well, they can take the Microsoft approach like "IT Specialist" suggested.

After all Microsoft seem to be Nokia's new best friend come saviour...

      Losing money?

Really? Their profits may be down, but, I'm sure there's a lot of companies (in all industries) that would happily take profits of €2 billion for 2010.

    Fascinating... possibly...

Is it just me, or does the fight-list dia/organi-gram strongly suggest an IC - or even a group of ICs on a circuit board?

      Facinating indeed

      I think you're right, if wired-up correctly I think it'll create Steve's famed Reality Distortion Field ;)
