    Clean-up job

They could always send a shuttle up to do a clean-up job, bring back the scrap and weigh it in to cover the costs....

    Oh wait....

    A near MISS?

Surely it should be a near HIT?

In shooting, if you fail to HIT the target, it would be called a MISS.

      Re: A near MISS?

I see where you're coming from but you are wrong.

A "near miss" is a miss that came near, not something which was nearly a miss.

You could also say that a near miss was something that nearly hit.

        Too much near

Now I'm starting to doubt whether "near" is a real word, in typical fashion of when you use an ordinary word a bit too much!

    Near miss?

Sounds more like an avoidable collision in that they calculated an incoming impact and moved out of the way,a bit like we do every day when driving.
