Celebratory fixtures?

It was mentioned that "Christmas tree, Hanukkah bush, or near their Kwanzaa candles" were a proper place to put holiday gifts under. You forgot the iconic "Festivus Pole".

Happy

By the time the 27 inch desktop ships there will be a 27 inch Chrome Top with user facing camera, microphones and stereo speakers and Android inside. It will double as a 4xHDTV at a third of Apples price.

Call me old fashioned but I would rather not have "smart" technology baked into my TV or monitor. It becomes bitrotten or obsolete so quickly that its more prudent to buy a dumb TV and a set top box.

Coat

Perhaps but it will be Chrome, and therefore utterly pointless.

Tell you what, if it is a third the cost I'll give you the difference, any less than that and you give me the difference. Still so keen on your made up crappy figures?

So a separate display and a Mac Mini for you sir. With the iMac (AFAIK) you can plug another computer in via the Thunderbolt port and it becomes an external monitor + accessories. So my 27" iMac could in a few years be just used as a monitor if I really wanted - yes it's a slight waste but not so different to buying a Mac Mini and Thunderbolt screen now and then a new Mac Mini in 3-4 years.

Thumb Down

crap glossy screens

I know that the glossy screen can make cheap displays look good but for that kind of money I would expect a no cost matt option.

I am still using an apple big matt screen (not imac) from >5 years ago and will not upgrade until there is a matt option. Gloss is fine for watching funny cat videos but if you depend on your computer for making your living, you want something that does not reflect the entire world around you.

Re: crap glossy screens

I agree, I'd love to have a matt screen on this iMac. When its not reflecting light it's magically attracting fingerprints.

According to Ars, the new iMacs have dramatically better glare reduction, but they're still not matt.

Re: crap glossy screens

Although I agree in principle, I would argue that having a shave and a shower first before getting in front of your computer might improve your reflective experience :)

Re: crap glossy screens

I am behind a glossy screen al day and I don't have any issues.

My experience with a matt display is (Dell and samsung screen) is that everything just looks more 'fuzzy' and not as sharp as it could be, but then again, I think that's suppose to be the purpose of a matt display.

Re: crap glossy screens

Glossy screen - very sharp image and much prefer to matte. I agree would be nice if they gave a choice but think you can get a film for the front from 3M or someone if you have to have matte.

A $100 difference on an £1100 purchase (and with duty still to be removed from that $100) is hardly extreme. And is as nothing compared to the gouge you face if you only want a better disk drive or graphics.

Are you guys completely innumerate?

Firstly you quote the GBP prices for the 27inch incorrectly, the prices you quoted were for the 24inch should be pretty obvious since the pound isn't currently worth over $2. Somehow you got the USD equivalent of the UK price correct.

So the basic 27inch is £1499 including £250 in VAT - that £250 is worth $400 at current rates, which means that the UK price of $2400 would equate to a US price (with similar tax) of $2200 not $2000 - which should be pretty obvious as the pound isn't currently worth less than $1.

Proof read maybe?

"Please bend over sir, this will be quite painful"

Didn't they just release new iMacs?

Do you just make random comments without reading the article?

Unproductive

It seems that nearly every day my Windows-using friends are cursing their PCs because they have to waste time downloading yet another update or sorting out A/V software problems. How do they ever get anything done? My Mac just works and it's as fast as the day I bought it, second-hand.
