back to article Brits don't want in-flight calling

A new survey reveals that the majority of Brits don't want regulations on in-flight calling relaxed... a shame since those regulations were relaxed more than two years ago. Online store Mobile Phone Expert asked more than 1500 people if they "welcomed the change in legislation that allows passengers to use their mobile phones …

    Sky Marshall already dropped them..

I fly BastardAir regularly (not through choice) and there used to be a great big fanfare on some flights with the plane had been equipped with the mobile facility and some lights would go on saying you could use the phone.

This got dropped a few months ago - you can still see the displays but at no point do they switch on so presumably O'Lairy was annoyed that he wasn't coining in enough cash and decided to kick beggars instead.

    Mobile interference

"Anyway, didn't we have to turn off the old mobe because it would somehow interfere with the avionics? Woulnd't a base station on board be worse in that respect? No, this is not critique at all sir, the very idea. Just asking."

Nope, that was a load all along, simply a made-up excuse to keep phones off planes. HOWEVER, at 35,000 feet or whatever, the phone will be in contact of dozens and dozens (if not hundreds) of cell sites, not actually be able to get a useable signal but perhaps interfere with all of them (if it can transmit at high enough power to reach the ground). With a femtocell, the phones power will be turned waaaay down so that won't be a problem.

"yes, there's always one miserable, self-important toe rag who scowls like a bulldog's jaksie after a night on the chilli and guinness, the moment a kid walks onto 'their' plane. Nice to be able to put a name to the face.

"Little bastards who hang over the seat in front..." etc? Anyone who made those noises in front of a kid of mine would end up enjoying his executive mini-scotch bottle as an enema."

@AC, you're an ass. I don't go around bitching about kids on flights, but seriously, keep your kids under control, they are not special (except to yourself) and don't have some special right to go around hassling other passengers, despite so many parents thinking they do. You might not enjoy having to restrict your kids during the flight but everyone else doesn't enjoy having your kids go out of control all flight.
