back to article Hewlett Packard Enterprise bigwig chuckles at talk of buyout talks

The number two at Hewlett Packard Enterprise has brushed off talk the slimmed-down organisation could be vulnerable to a takeover, as the company is again linked with “possible” buyers - this time around Huawei, Lenovo, Oracle, Cisco and, er, Dell. Antonio Neri, executive veep and general manager for the Enterprise Group, told …

“From the bigger company perspective I’d say yes, but as you know this market is moving lightening fast, you have to constantly lean in, figure out what changes you need to make"

There I was, thinking you had to drive the market ...

No, Oracle, Cisco, and IBM will wait a bit, the market cap will continue to come down due to lower sales ... AND they just hasted that effect by selling stuff off.

    Bye bye, HPE ...

HPE's shares are at a 52 week high and it's by far one of the best performing tech stocks in the past 12 months! Might have to wait a little for the market cap to come down!

    Joke

Give them a year or two

HPE’s market cap is currently hovering around the $39bn mark

Give HPE's management a year or so, they'll be able to get it down to below $1bn.

    Market cap at $39bn?

Are they using the same criteria used to value Autonomy?

As the Same 'c' level execs

Smile to themselves as they instrct their broker to sell their holdings knowing full well that in 9 months[1] time the market value will be half that it is now and a bid for the biz won't be long coming.

Then they'll move on to the next biz for them to wreck.

[1] or whatever time is needed for the SEC not to come after them for insider trading.

Well he would say that, wouldn't he?

Neri "told us the $28bn annual sales figures at HPE puts its on a pair with “3M, Nike and McDonalds”.

Interesting, but not particularly relevant, comparison - all three of those companies sell massive volumes of lower value products.

Fact is that HPE is going to be smaller; let's not forget it's less than a year since (old) HP was crowing about the fact that both HP Inc and HPW were both to be Fortune 50 Companies. $28bn revenue just about gets you into the Fortune 100.

I suspect we are about to be spectators to the demise of a once great company.

Poetic justice if Microsoft bought them and did a Nokia on them.

    @Jack of Shadows

Haha maybe Novell will leverage up and give it a try.

HPE on a parr with “3M, Nike and McDonalds”

So HPE will broaden its product line to include Scotch Tape, shoes and burgers?

And, please! Keep Meg out of politics. Not even close to being as awful as Carly, but not cut out for politics. Especially at age 60.

I smell retention bonuses .... and M&A fees

Just saying ...... well, it's what been driving these HPE/HP Inc execs in recent years.

And of course, those darlings on Wall Street, couldn't offshore those jobs, could we? Like to another planet ......

  10. Crazy Operations Guy

No one will be taking over HPE

Of course not, they intend to drive the company right off a tall cliff to ensure that nothing is left but a smoldering crater.
