    The IPO window has closed

The problem is that in the current market the chances of getting a successful IPO are slim. And some of the high-profile IPOs of recent years have (correctly) gone down to Earth somewhat. So, you have to keep on going for now and hope that the "good times" of easy IPOs returns. I think things are going to get worse rather than better however, so we'll see lots of startups go down or downsize just to keep themselves alive.

    Dire times

Its such a hard one to call now. Dire times ahead for everyone, me thinks.

Of the newer players you have to bet on Pure and Nimble with Nutanix or perhaps Simplivity. This has HC, Hybrid and AF covered. NetApp is struggling big time and will be announcing Q3 result soon which, if recent history repeats will mean more downward trending and perhaps more layoffs. EMC had to be bought to survive, HP is on the ropes and IBM will most likely sell what storage business it has left to Lenovo.

The big contraction is gathering pace.....

Several local folks here were canned DAYS after they were hired, after being pursued by DG heavily. Won't be long now....
