Knowing how big corporations love to look after their staff I bet the execs will get nice relocation payments plus bonuses for being so inconvenienced. Everyone else will just be kicked to the kerb.

    Odd target

I'm not sure how an SSD plant is a target for closure, considering WD don't have any of their own? How are they going to continue to provide the same products without the capacity to do so? Not to mention, should they not be putting more money IN to SSD production, considering the importance of SSDs to their future survival?

I have no insider info here, but SanDisk also has a relatively new Penang fab -- so clearly WDC must have liked it better than the HGST facility.

    Why

are the windscreen wipers on the parked cars in the picture tilted up? Around here we sometimes do this in the winter to prevent the rubber freezing on the glass, but that can't be the reason they do it in Malaysia?

      wiper blades melting?

or maybe the rubber just deforming, dust/sand wearing them (and windshields)

      Re: Why

The temperature is hot enough (> 40 degrees Celsius) that the rubber may get deformed or damaged after prolonged "contact" with the windscreen.

    Fab at Firesale price

Since China ia now officially trying to "reduce its dependencies on foreign producers" this sounds like a buy prospect for one of those People's Republican Army owned companies.

They'll get a pretty good price!....Could that be part of the merger deal?
