back to article UK.gov SLASHES ICT frameworks by more than HALF

The government is cutting the number of its ICT frameworks from 26 down to just 10 - a move that has been criticised for leaving SMEs in the dark. The strategy will initially reduce the number of frameworks down to 16, but as more agreements expire that number will decrease to 10. The new frameworks will typically last for …

    Current system isn't great

    Such cynicism!

I wouldn't mind if the current system was great, but it's not.

It takes up lots of our time (SME), and it isn't great at finding customers - have to do out of band networking to do that.

    CCS is very badly resourced.....

Jesus. They've got nearly 50(!) senior civil servants and over 700 staff to run a few frameworks and execute a (pretty rubbish) managed service......

    As a ratio type comparison:

    1) In 2010, there were around 5,000 SCS out of 500,000 staff. To manage and run defence, justice, the benefits system. Or 1 in 100.

    2) In 2012, GPS (CCS mk 1) had around 7 SCS and a staff of around 350. 1 in 50, so not great then.

    3) Now, it's ratio is 1 in 13! But it's OK. They have a Director of Innovation.

    YAY! GO CCS!

and back in the day, CCTA, one of CCS's predecessor organisations, had precisely 1.

Re: CCS is very badly resourced.....

Looks like an overdue, step by step, reversion to the days of the CCTA list prices in the 1970s - but with a lot more suppliers. If that were to be accompanied by well-supported routines for assessing and approving products and services from SMEs so that risk-averse customers could purchase from them with confidence that would be a great step forward. If not ...

Govt or indeed the Civil Service should never run IT, its has been proven time and time again they are incompetent on a monumental scale.

And yet time after time no one takes responsibility...... got the Treasury as our Bankroll and they can strong arm as much money as we need from the tax payers.......

Happy days, just keep pissing it up the wall.

Please tell, who should run government IT? Capita, Serco?

Re: Please tell, who should run government IT?

That role is reserved for one of the big management consultancies who will then parcel up work and subcontract it out to the big SI's who in turn will parcel up work and subcontract it out to the likes of Capita and Serco...
