Nothing special...NetApp is late in the game with Veeam

Veeam has had this functionality already for a long time in combination with HP StoreVirtual and recently also with the HP 3Par StoreServe arrays...

NetApp is just late in the game..

Yes Veeam does have it with 3PAR and integrate with 3PAR's non-existent snapvault technology too.

Yes both HP Storevirtual and 3PAR Storeserv have had this for a long time. But then again they're both open block devices and so don't need a snapvault equivalent, they'll work with anything without the need for all the Netapp proprietary stuff.

Re: … but then NetApp doesn’t have its own backup software....

yes they do, but smvi is not a full blown backup product. works well for local backup and restore but as soon as you replicate the data or vault it, it can't be used for restores.

SnapProtect allows for replicated data restores.

Actually...

Dell has AppAssure for their backup solution. Whether it's up to par compared to EMC's Avamar and NetWorker, I don't know as I haven't used any of those three.

Re: Actually...

AppAssure does not integrate with Dell storage snapshots, so it is completely irrelevant to the discussion...

Re: Actually...

A few years back Netapp would have been first to market with this kind of partnership. Their following of HP in this manner just seems to reflect the current market perception for Netapp.
