Hacking Banks. Two Questions.

"Earlier this year he was handed another two-year sentence, this time for hacking Logica and Nordea bank, although that was reduced to one year on appeal."

Well why don't they just legalize it? Wouldn't it be just so much simpler for all concerned?

Re: Hacking Banks. Two Questions.

Maybe they could just acquit him the grounds of having such a cool and piratey name? Gottfrid Svartholm Warg. The very name smells of blood and leather, armour and horses, oiled steel, greasy matted (and importantly long) plaited hair. WIth a name like that you could only ever walk round in a helmet with a nosepiece, full set of facial hair, carrying an axe or an enormous sword or both.

Unless of course he just changed his name to that, like Kim Dotcock. If he's really called Sven Schmidt, then throw the book at the f***er.

Poor Gotfridd

A long time ago, my penalist Professor in Law faculty, introduced his first teaching with these words : " Sirs... If you are here to learn Justice, you are damn wrong... You are here to learn Law, which is a whole lot of rules set by the rich to protect their properties... This has absolutely nothing to do with Justice ! Why do you think Justice is represented with a blindfold ? Because if she was seeing what is done on her behalf, she would be damn ashamed !

Gottlib... Whatever you will do, whichever you will appeal to, you are doomed ! You have attacked the holy blessed financial fortress of the Rich and Powerful, CrappyWood, CopsLand and TaxGang !!!

Obviously, on top, you live in a country so democratic, that they didn't hesitate to violate your rights to expel you from Cambodia, then even don't protect their own nationals from extradition... That just shows...

I feel so sorry for you mate...

Re: Poor Gotfridd

I hardly think that hacking banks, social security systems and boarder control systems, then fleeing to Cambodia, rather than face trial is something which should be defended. Also responding to a perfectly legitimate extradition request under a pre-existing treaty is, again perfectly legitimate.

Do you actually think that he's being treated badly? Or do you really only want to defend him because "he done the pirate bay."

Re: Poor Gotfridd

The Swedish court failed to prove beyond reasonable doubt that he indeed hacked the systems in question thus the light prison sentence because of his involvement but not because he himself hacked into the alleged systems. Now the Denmark court wants a stab at him for the exact same scenario and he'll probably be using the same defense as before. You're sure quick to jump to guilty verdits, I hope you'll never be in a jury.

Also the Swedish authorities "extradited" Anakata under very fishy circumstances, since Cambodia and Sweden have no extradition treaty, the Cambodia authorities kicked him out to Thailand under a false claim that his visa had expired, although his visa was still valid. From Thailand all the proper paper work was filled and he was deported in Sweden, in prison, for a very long time awaiting his hearing. Guilty until innocent right?

Re: Poor Gotfridd

Wait, are you saying that because the Swedish courts found him guilty, people shouldn't be saying that he's guilty?

The hacking done to Danish system had nothing to do with banks, so there's no real similarities, except it's both charges of hacking. It'd be like saying a robber who robbed a jewellery store and was found guilty, shouldn't be extradited to the country in which he robbed a liquor store because it's basically the exact same scenario.

Also it's hardly the responsibility of the Swedish courts to prove that he's guilty beyond reasonable doubt (a term I'm not even sure is used in Swedish law -are you?), it's the prosecutor who has to do that. The Swedish courts would've given a guilty verdict if they thought the prosecution had done its job, without the defence mounting a counter-argument.

But since you seem quite sure that he was wrongly convicted and that the things he are charged for in Denmark more of the same (I.E wrongful conviction coming up), then how about you stop being AC and start posting some sources other than the spewing of said AC?

Because honestly, I would be interested

Re: Poor Gotfridd

The Swedish court did NOT found him guilty under the charges that were brought by the prosecution, he was convicted because his systems were involved in the attack, but not because he personally commited the crime something that can happen to each and every one of us.

Folicular Obsession

It's like a person's folicular means as much to El Reg as do house prices to the Daily Mail.

Re: Folicular Obsession

Well, quite. Not to mention someone got smacked down in the comments the other day for calling Rory Cellan-Jones a "tooth sucking Welsh slaphead" - some consistency on this burning non-issue please, el Reg.

Individuals can't do this.

Only the NSA is allowed to do so.
