So first Marines in Darwin...
Now this..
looks like Australia is succumbing to the same military herpes that Japan, Germany, Iraq, Afghanistan, Cuba etc all have.
Once you have yank bases, you have them for good.
Re: So first Marines in Darwin...
Australia has had US bases since at least 1970, when Pine Gap was opened.
Re: So first Marines in Darwin...
You lost that one with Pine Gap didn't you? Or maybe when us Brits marched you Diggers off the lanading craft and into the compound at Changi in the defence of India.....
Re: So first Marines in Darwin...
Wow, awesome knee-jerk reaction!
What the radar will probably see
Is the end of any possibility of a change of plan to relocate the Square Kilometer Array near a big transmitter.
Re: What the radar will probably see
There is already a massive transmitter there, it is able to take out Qantas aircraft.
Re: What the radar will probably see
And by "near" you mean "only 500km away".
I mean, that is nearly 60,000 double decker buses.
"if any space-based activities will affect Australia’s national interest"
A kangaroo mothership is approaching fast!
Funniest naval base name ever!
Harold Holt was the prime minister that Australia lost. Literally. see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harold_Holt
As he was last seen swimming at a beach, a Naval communications complex seems fitting, in a highly ironic way.
Re: Funniest naval base name ever!
The real irony is the Harold Holt Memorial Swimming Pool
This is not a joke
We actually named a swimming pool in honor of him drowning
But
how would you fit a Chinese submarine in a swimming pool?
Icon, because if it wasn't the Chinese it must've being the aliens wot got 'im.
The Harold Holt Swimming Pool
Nice place for a paddle.
Complete with a 20 meter high diving tower over a 1 meter deep pool.
Long Dead Harold of course, is very pleased.
