Goatse.cx opens up again - as an email provider
Notorious shock site of a bygone internet Goatse.cx has pulled opened its doors as an email provider. An Aussie IT consultant, who paid $10,200 for Goatse, will attempt to recoup his costs by selling email addresses using the domain: anyone interested in one can bag an @goatse.cx addy provided they can stretch to $5 a year. …
"...Goatse.cx has pulled opened its doors..."
Oh well played, ma'am. Very good. :)
No. It is not very good
because the phrase is syntactically invalid.
It could potentially have been good, if the author had been capable of presenting her joke as a properly-formed English sentence.
Such things do seem however to be becoming scarcer and scarcer on these pages.
Re: No. It is not very good
Well, it made me laugh. That counts as a successful joke in my book, but I guess I have must have a faulty syntax filter on my sense-of-humour circuits. Or, possibly, really low standards.
rude
Isn't this a bit too rude for a lady to know about, let alone describe? I'm a gentleman 1.0 (pre-PC)
Goatse deserves a place in the Internet Hall of Fame

He wont see that 10k
no chance he's going to sell 10k worth of email accounts.
Re: He wont see that 10k
From the Gawker article...
He's been promoting Goatse email on the cult internet forum Something Awful and the social news site Reddit, and says more than 4,000 people have signed up for a Goatse email invite.
If half of them go on to pay the huge sum of $5, he's got his cash back.
Re: He wont see that 10k
I bet he will. There seems to be a lot of interest from certain quarters in that subject: http://www.theblogmocracy.com/wp-content/uploads/muslim-attack-goat.jpg
I like the idea but...
As someone who has handed out many a surprise link to that domain I'm thrilled with the idea in principle but it's the practicalities. Who would I use this domain to converse with? My mother? My business associates?
More importantly, would I trust someone who buys a rectal-related domain with my email?
Re: I like the idea but...
Perhaps anyone who needs an addy for '"we will not pass on your details ..." signups. Why not for $5? Better than a spam raddled Hotmail account- if you can still get one...
Re: I like the idea but...
Nice idea. Don't forget to construct a rather, shall we say, (in)appropriate autoresponder...
Re: I like the idea but...
From what I read this article as, it's a vanity forwarder... So on forums, giving out to your mates, geeky associates, you'd use this. Then gmail\hotmail\selfhosted\whatever for people who aren't from the internets.
I'm not falling for that
Nice try, Reg, but I'm not falling for that.
Although maybe it's a double-bluff, and the link actually goes to a Rick Astley video....
No matter how SFW the URL might be now, it's already blacklisted by countless corporate filters due to its nefarious past. Useless!
Great email address
to give to scum-bag recruitment agents :-)
Re: Great email address
"Yes, I really am willing to bend over and open this wide for the right job."
Tried explaining to a younger colleague the whole goatse thing. Gave up in the end and told him to google it.
Oops.
IT police kicking the door down in 3....2....1....
Pfft, kids of today, eh? Not even heard of goatse? Get off my lawn.
Honestly, it's safe to look at now
Yeah... Fool me once shame on you.
Fool me twice...
erm, I'll chip in £20 if everyone else wishes to donate just so this cornerstone of internet 1.0 stays up, it has bought my priceless smirks - and embarassment too.
goatse shrine
Sam Hocevar -- past Debian project leader -- has a shrine to goatse at http://sam.zoy.org/goatse/
*I* think it's funny, but I can also understand how people might disagree.
Re: goatse shrine
zoy.org? Isn't that one of the many tentacles of Last Measure?
Thanks for the history lesson
I never dared look from work. I'd always assumed it was a rude picture that involved on or more goats.
Now I can appear to be more Trenneman than Moss when conversing with my peers.
Re: Thanks for the history lesson
It's almost as good as the 'gentleman chandalier' image.
Didn't it leave because of the dolphin related link on it, rather than hello.jpg?
After coming back as goat.cx and last seen at goatse.cc?
Email me if you want a pizza roll, tubgirl@goatse.cx
is it just me...
I was reminded of good old goatse when i saw a recent EverythingEverywhere billboard, bearing some text with a fain resemblance... just goes to show that what I saw in 1999 can't be unseen!
I can understand...
...why some people would want an email address hosted there - it's an undernet/geeky thing.
I would not be surprised to see similar offerings evolve. Who want's a meatspin.com email address?
Missed some prime opportunities there
By your rule's you mi's'sed out a few apostrophe's:
* ADDRE'S'S
* 'SURPRI'SED
* OFFERING'S
Re: Missed some prime opportunities there
I'm guessing from where the apostrophe was placed and by the rest of the meticulous grammar and spelling, you got trolled.
Was going to the site to have a look
(volume turned down, and hand temporarily over screen) but I can't see anything without a NoScript exception. Not bloody likely.
Re: Was going to the site to have a look
JPGs are typically silent.
