Serco ate our IT supplier: Now what? – London boroughs
IT services relationships at the London tri-borough group of Westminster, Hammersmith and Fulham and Kensington and Chelsea are likely to become more complex following the acquisition of Westminster's IT supplier Vertex by Serco. Serco said the acquisition last week, for £55m, brings it additional skills and capabilities to …
Don't you think
that the council are basically saying one of:
1) We're so incompetent at managing these 300 people that we can push them off to another company and that other company can still do the current job and make a profit.
2) We're so incompetent that we didn't notice that the new contract is actually costing us more than keeping this in house.
On the other hand perhaps it's a bit of both!
Serco over reaching?
Looks like Serco are over reaching themselves. With Serco having so many goverment contracts what happens when they go bust?
Should we start a book on which government minster goes down when that happens?
Re: Serco over reaching?
IT suppliers to government have a habit of charging over the odds. Serco are only hosed when the government starts pulling the plug.
Re: Serco over reaching?
"when they go bust"
Lookin at their share price and finances they are doing better in the current situation. Plus, I don't think people realise that they are not just a UK company, a large part of their income is from countries not as affected as the UK.
Time to investigate
Vertex purchased for £55m, yet has a contract with London boroughs worth £44m+ per year. What's wrong with this picture?
Re: £44m+
Is not £44m profit. I think a company pulling in £44m profit a year would be worth a little more!
Re: £44m+
It suggests that the councils actually got a good deal.
If the supplier is making less than £55M profit on a £440M government contract
Is this the Same Vertex that used to do IT for Scottish Gas and runs numerous call centers?
