I really love apples in chicken salad with walnuts, or just stuffed into my mouth with cheese.

Or wrapped in phyllo & baked with - just name it.

My own sole tree is Granny Smith.

I prefer Bananas!

No but seriously; Apples are my thing

Hello,

Indeed, a good Cox's Orange Pippin or a Braeburn for me.

Thumb Up

Cox's Orange Pippin and Braeburn, I have not heard of those in a while.

+1 for naming an obscure apple variant.

Obscure?

They are both available anywhere that sells fruit here in the North Bay ... Braeburns pretty much all year long, COPs in season. I have four of each in my mostly Gravenstein orchard.

Obscure apple varieties...

Cox's Orange Pippin and Braeburn are both standard varieties in UK. You can get them in Sainsbury's all year round.

Re: Obscure apple varieties...

The daddy is surely the Russet, Egremont preferably though any variety will do.

Re: Obscure apple varieties...

Just goes to show how crap I am at buying apples, I always go for red golden delicious first and green ones second.

I never think to root for different kinds but I will now.

@vDesktop Re: Obscure apple varieties...

I am told that my grandfather, a smallholder, described these apples as neither golden or delicious.

I agree.

Re: @vDesktop Obscure apple varieties...

Well I guess 'Green Tasteless' was probably vetoed by the marketing department. Can't imagine why.

Re: Obscure apple varieties...

Just added to my existing Egremont Russet - can't beat it with a bit of Wensleydale - with a Spartan, a Rosette, and a quince: Vranja.

How's your Shatner's Bassoon?

I doubt the bloated necked AC groks the reference.
