back to article Apple iPad 3 to sport LTE '4G'

Apple's upcoming iPad 3 will incorporate LTE connectivity, it has been claimed. If correct - and since it comes from news agency Bloomberg, quite possibly through a managed leak; common with large, influential US news outlets - it will mark a big step up in the tablet's ability to access data services on the move. Bloomberg's …

Only higher than 'some' HD televisions? Not most? Or all? Unless there's HDTV's out there that support higher than 1920x1080 resolution, that puts the iPad3's pixel count somewhere between 1280x720 and 1920x1080... not quite the 2048x1536 everyone is hoping for. My money's on 1600x1200, keeping the 4:3 aspect ratio ;)

There are some 21:9 TVs that have a 2560x1080 pixel count, like the one reviewed here http://www.reghardware.com/2012/01/12/review_philips_cinema_21_9_gold_50pfl7956t_50in_ultra_widescreen_amblight_tv/ a few days ago.

It still has less pixels than a 2048x1536 display though.

surely the pixel count on a telly is largely irrelevant, because you're comparing a 10" screen against a telly, which is likely at least 24" in size.

so even having the same number of pixels, that's a much much higher density of pixel and so much improved image.

Battery Life

This all sounds great, but I'm intrigued about how the battery life wil be affected.

Wrong question

Battery life, pixels etc are not interesting...

The _INTERESTING_ question is: "Will it come with IMS?"

If it does - operators have won and the application revolution is officially over.

If it does not - operators can kiss their cunning plan to charge for breathing in, breathing out and allowing to do so on 4G good bye. The data shall be gobbled regardless of their delusional "internet multimedia system" ideas.

Exactly, battery life isn't interesting, at least not to Apple rumour mongers. What's important is will it look sufficiently different from the iPad 2 that people in the coffee shop will be able to see that you have the newest one and be extra jealous

@jai

You're assuming they're doing it because it's better, rather than just so they can claim it's better.

IF CORRECT...

Big surprise if it does not have the higher res. screen, faster CPU, better camera. The problem Apple have (along with the iPhone 4S) is that it is SO good already people hardly view it as an upgrade.

The iPhone 4s added a lot of new features but many were disappointed that it looked the same - but realistically they could have called it the iPhone 5 and maybe then people would have been happier.

Realistically

They could have kept all the hardware from the 4, shoved in a larger 4" screen and booted it out of the door and people would have fought in the street for one.

What I want is glasses-free 3D for gaming. Perhaps some people would want a better camera but do people really use it for taking pictures - guess they may as well to tick a box to say it's better.

Wish list

I really want screens on both sides so that I can turn it around to look at the back of stuff.

That would be soooooo cool.
