The goals of Hewlett-Packard's OpenStack cloud are immodest, perhaps even heretical in a Valley where people casually caution you against "boiling the ocean" – or trying to do everything at once. According to the HP cloud beta announcement page: "HP intends to extend its full spectrum of cloud offerings spanning private, hybrid …
Openstack is no "Linux of Cloud Computing"
Rather "Android of Cloud Computing".
Market-segmented, low margin, extreme potential to build upon but not enough traction from big companies (because of a "wait and see" attitude).
Oh, and, yes, it didn't escape me that Android allows decent products to be marketed now, while OpenStack, I dare to say, has yet some way to go.

So they'll be flogging it off cheap in 7 weeks' time?
RE: This doesn't fill me with joy
Ouch! Bit of a nightmare scenario, the PHB rolls in one morning and says "I bought one of those £99 clouds at the weekend, I know they're going end-of-life but it seemed to good a bargain to miss, could you just plug it all in and get it working for me?"
For < HP is committed to leadership in packaged consulting, software and hardware offerings.> read:
HP is a world leader in secure packaging.

"Randy Bias, CTO and co-founder of OpenStack start-up Cloud Scaling, was blunt when he talked to us about the architecture challenge that lies ahead of HP: "What you see in OpenStack today is only 10 per cent of what it takes to build a cloud. The big companies are trying to get in on the hype and momentum because they know they have to, but they have the people inside their business.""
One imagines what Randy means to says, so that his comment makes real sense, is the big companies are trying to get in on the hype and momentum because they know they have to, but they have TO HAVE THE RIGHT people inside their business.
