M&S whips out carbon-neutral bra
Marks and Spencer has whipped out what it claims is the world's first carbon-neutral bra. The M&S carbon-neutral bra The Autograph Leaves Collection Multiway Bra is produced in an eco-friendly Sri Lankan factory powered by hydroelectric and solar energy. M&S stumped up $400,000 towards the cost of the solar panels and design …
Maybe im just a cynic...
Press release text: "The building also boasts a turf roof and "evaporative cooling" system, which is much less leccy-hungry than air conditioning. All of this, coupled to low-energy lighting, means the factory uses 40 per cent less electricity than a conventional equivalent."
Translation: "The building is a mud hut, with open doors and a bucket of water in the middle for "cooling". And we use candles for "lighting". "
Yep, what can i say? I'm a cynic...
Really?
So they are shipped here by sail boat then?
This is M&S just jumping on a bandwagon (an overpriced one at that).
Thanks.
For showing us what a bra looks like. I thought I was reading the Daily Mail for a moment.
Indeedy
And doesn't that model look under 16?
Shame on the Reg.
Or am I showing my age?
Re: Thanks.
The snap would indeed be gratuitous were it not in fact the very bra in question, not unreasonably modelled by a woman. I feel obliged to provide readers photographic evidence of just what a carbon neutral bra looks like.
This comment is carbon neutral;
because while writing it I promised to myself not to cut down a particular tree that's growing on my land.
However I farted while typing, and the methane released has undone all of this good work.
But...
...was it a silent-but-deadly fart, or a regular one? That might affect your carbon phewtprint
No, no, no...
When will they learn - planting trees does not make up for emitting carbon from fossil fuels - the trees will soak it up initially, but as soon as they are chopped down or die naturally the carbon is promptly released again. Planting trees does not offset other carbon emissions. The only way that M+S can claim it is carbon-neutral by planting trees is if they guarantee to maintain an equal number of healthy trees for the next ten million years!
Nice piccie though - can we have more illustrated stories about ladies underwear please?
@ as soon as they are chopped down or die naturally the carbon is promptly released again
umm, no.
Have you heard of wood?
Wood?
No reason to get that excited ... it's just a girl in a bra.
YES!!!
Finally my Platinum membership to El Reg is paying off. Great pic.
Lester, I hope you will continue following this story closely and write about it frequently.
Bonkers
The worlds gone funking bonkers, carbon neutral underwear. what every next tuppence for every bottle you bring in that is full of your methane.
carbon neutral
carbon neutral ... but not silicone neutral?
Scientific method.
We need some control pictures of scantily-clad girlies wearing non-eco-friendly underwear for comparison purposes in order to analyse the benefits* in any meaningful way.
*Oo-er.
MAS Holdings plant
Classic!
That's exactly what a Bra manufacturer shoud call it's company.
It's a temple
My body has a "evaporative cooling" system, I call it "sweating"
Headline fail
should have read
M&S pulls off carbon-neutral bra
Need to go deeper.
Failure to see fail fail.
Pulls off is a much more amusing, if not obvious, choice of words.
Paris, because she... I'm not even going to bother there.
But what's it cost?
Conspicuously not mentioned: How much this 'eco-friendly' clothing costs off the rack. I'm guessing at least twice the cost of earth-hating underwear.
