Evil Google, Really?
Google is only trying to give users what they want. Unless you're looking for porn, you don't want it appearing in search results.
I can think of plenty of times that I've tried to search for something for my effort to be undermined by a load of rubbish.
Endangering the free web. Really?
Google is changing it's own product to try and meet the needs of it's customers (no not webmaster but the average Joe looking for something). I really don't see a big problem here.
Cuts both ways
Sometimes you *are* searching for porn, and all that other stuff just gets in the way. What they need is a porn checkbox next to the address bar.

but you've marked the wrong people as customers there!
Browsers/Users's are not Google's customers
Webmasters are not Google's customers
Google's customers are those that actually pay them something - Advertisers
I don't get it.
Will the companies who have paid for adwords, have their balance charged for when they would have appeared on a page, but the individual has blocked them?
If I was spending money on adwords, I'd certainly want the answer to questions like this.
Just as a note, we recently received a £75 voicher from Google to spend on their adwords thingy. Is the chocolate factory starting to run out of coco beans? Read in to that, what you will.
Mistaken
No, any money you spend with GOOGLE will still get your ad up there...
But any money you spend with dodgy-we-scan-search-engines-Inc. will be lost and people will be able to ignore all the millions of pages you create that say "you searched for Blu-Ray Battlestar, there were 0 results" or "Experts have asked this question, but there has been no exchange of answers. Register to see the no answers"
Interesting thing I noticed
Unrelated really, but, if you're looking for an answer and Experts Exchange appears to have it, it'll pop up a box asking you to sign in/register to view the answer.
Don't bother, the answers there behind the lightbox so just right-click and view source!

A couple more features like this and I would probably be willing to log into my gmail account before searching.

Experts exchange
And I have to repeat that I can still see answers to questions that I find on Google (I checked again just now) by scrolling to the bottom of an Experts Exchange page -- but you _have_ to go through Google. A direct link not referred from Google will hide the answers.
Nothing chilling about it.
The purpose of the search engine is to produce results people are interested in. If people frequently blacklist a site, that seems pretty indicative of a lack of interest in the site.

In schools, we have site filtration and one idiot entered *.* in the filter list - that was fun!!!
This is the type of stuff we need.
Rather than opt in internet, we need systems like this so that people can setup for themselves what websites are available for them and for children. This is only a start system and needs further functionality. But it is a start in the right direction. Give the power to control to the users rather than be forced by governments.
Oh I am starting to sound very a bit right wing now, so I will stop there.
File sharing sites should be blocked from search.
Although a much debatable subject - as a developer myself I'd like Go-ogle to exclude all file sharing sites from it's search engine. Starting with the massive Rapidshare nightmare.
Currently it's almost as if Google agrees with piracy.
