Coca-Cola has filed a trademark infringement case against the operators of pornforacoke.com, which offers "tons of porn for the price of a daily glass of coke". In full Coca-Cola livery, the very NSFW site boasts "more than 10,000 gigabytes of porn". The case would seem to be an easy win for Coca-Cola, then. The drinks giant …
Why should coca-cola win ?
They are not passing themselves off as coca-cola. They have a few images of their cans of undrinkable fizz which may lead to some action, but the domain has clearly nothing to do with coca-cola.
Must contain letters, numbers or somesuch
Because they are trying to trade on a trademarked name.
you mean Coca-Cola, who for years and years has been pushing the "ask for it by name" axiom because "referring to its product at 'coke' dilutes the trademark"?
a savvy lawyer could make some tidy bank over this case.
Coke is strange choice...
...as most of the young ladies on the site seem to be partaking of some kind of dairy-based libation. Baileys, perhaps?
Merry Xmas all.
The account has been suspended.. Not sure if that's the influence of Coke, or El Reg causing site overload.
Coca Cola (TM) would certainly change their minds if some clever company with a name similar to the title published polls suggesting that 89% of women believe that Pepsi bottles (and possibly cans, we've seen convincing examples) provide more satisfaction than Coke ones.
I think they've had too much...
...they seem to be splashing it everywhere. That's going be a devil of a job to get out of the upholstery.
Coke is a trademark
Should have gone for pornforacola.com ...
Anyone told the Columbians?
I mean they're selling porn on the back of Coca Cola.
Unlike the irony of F%$#ing Disney Corporation, that sues websites selling authentic Disney licenced merchandise, for using Disney images on their website alongside the products directly supplied by Disney in the first place.
Unless you want to pay extra of course.

The site has gone already.
If they hadn't tried to make a buck out of it ...
Coke might stand less of a chance of rescuing it's name. I understand not for money copy sites have a better chance of remaining in the registrant's possession.
I read somewhere that Bank of America had recently bought up every derogatory combination of it's name.
In Canada the automotive retail chain called Canadian Tire, known for selling allegedly dubious tires (tyres), had failed to assert it's ownership of CrappyTire.com - the popular nickname for the chain - as the registrant was neither passing off as Canadian Tire nor was he selling anything. It was, naturally, faithfully reported by The Register <http://www.theregister.co.uk/2001/07/04/canadian_tire_loses_fight/ >.
...brand cola drinks are no longer flavored with coca leaves,* they might have a stronger case. It is my understanding they never went after deep throat for the "things go better with coke" scenes.
so we just get redirected to pornforacoladrink.com or will the defendants lose everything trying to fight salaried lawyers.
*Which they were in 1955, although the cocaine was removed according to the ingredients list i read off a 55 gallon drum of syrup during the boy scout tour. It was the most interesting factory i had seen, we were told that a glass bottle cost 8 cents and got 5 recyclings in their giant bottle washer.
But how do they know
when a bottle has been recycled 5 times?
Is it crap porn
Or is it The Real Thing™?
That's that stuff they used to make out of coal, isn't it?
domain has been suspended..lol
seems the coca cola has perhaps done a dmca on the domain name
a case of bah fucking humbug methinks

Re : Alain
I can assure you it's very drinkable indeed. I'm enjoying a bottle of Coke right now along with a turkey sandwich.
While I don't think Coca-Cola would be right to enforce copyright on this, I'm pretty sure they could lawyer bash it down if they wanted, I don't imagine pornforacoke has a great big legal war chest.
That said if they do go to court and lose, I hope they get lines.
* Cola *
Indeed, should've been porn for a cola.
Can't help thinking, if Coca Cola were really serious about preventing misuse of their trademark, they should sue cocaine vendors, where such misattribution is rampant. Oh wait ...
