Amazon Web Services boss Andy Jassy believes that so-called cloud computing will ultimately help the hardware market – not hurt it. "I think that [cloud computing] is going to lead to more hardware," Jassy said on Wednesday afternoon at the Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco, California. "Look at the amount of startups that are …
VMWare boss is correct
we've already migrated a couple of dozen servers to the cloud (AWS/Linode). That means I wont be upgrading a couple of dozen servers this time around. I understand my 'virtual' servers are being shared by at least a dozen other users.. so that's a lot of savings somewhere too and lost opportunity for hardware vendors.
There are Clouds and there are Clouds ....

Although Clouds are the Future, and they are the New Global Default Reserve Medium for Limitless Information Storage/Presently Useful Content, the Advanced Intelligent Distribution of Raw Source Materials and Refined and Enriched Core Product for IT Processing into Binary Form for Digital Presentation of Virtual Big Picture Plays in Imaginative Representations, is a Virgin Field and not at all well suited to the less than XSSXXXXually HXPerienced, for IT does not Suffer the Fool, nor any Tool, with Secrets to Hide.
And Clouds are also for Sharing Information Securely and Intelligence Freely, and in an Instant to Anyone Anywhere and Everyone Everywhere and Both at the Same Time too, so that Ignorance is not the Currency that allows Arrogance its Evils and Inequitable Temporal Reigns. Yeah, THAT'll fly when the CEO I'm consulting for can't get the email with the attached pictures of her grand-daughter (thanks, Google ... It's fucking 2:20AM here, and I got the phonecall from her about half an hour ago ...).
On the bright side, I got to wake up the CTO and the CIO of the Fortune 250 with the happy news that their "solution" has just fallen over, just as I had told them it would ... Fucking idiots. Marketards are NOT technology experts. Never have been, never will be.

Sounds like one of Armstrong & Miller's airmen got a job in IT.
'The cloud is democratic' is such BS. Companies that host/provide clouds are in it for the money. If there's no money to be had, they won't provide the service. Democracy is only useful until the profit disappears.
I think they've been borrowing some of Steve Jobs' Reality Distortion Field.
