Fit with Apple's nanny policies?

How will they reconcile the sex, drugs and violence that GTA customers expect with the strict limits on sex, drugs and violence that St Jobs seems to feel are needed to "protect" Apple customers? I foresee disappointment.

By porting Chinatown Wars

You know, the DS game that was originally designed to meet Nintendo's strict limits on sex, drugs and violence. Since it was released on the iPod and iPhone months ago, it's clearly acceptable.

And there remain no limits on the Mac side, obviously.

Re: By porting Chinatown Wars

You have obviously never played Chinatown Wars on the DS.

OOOOLD!

Why these very old games? The most recent of them is 6 years old.

The mac is more than capable of running GTA4 style. Assuming there is a rough parity between the processing power required for the PC version.

RE: OOOOLD!

You'll be happy with what Lord Jobs prescribes and no correspondence will be entered into. As a (presumable) Applophile you should be used to that sort of thing by now.

Then again, it might be the publisher making a practical choice, since (as I understand it) GTA-III, GTA-VC and GTA-SA all use the same generation of game engine (more or less) so they can bang 3 games out from a single port, rather than just the one, GTA-IV.

Besides, GTA-SA represents the pinnacle of the series thus far, IMHO.

An android monkey?

AWESOME! Robotic dogs, android monkeys, automaton zebra, bionic giraffes and cyborg chinchilla!

I for one welcome our emotionless, yet very cute, overlords.

Make a little extra selling old games to Mac Users.

These are fun games, but they're pretty damn old! Plus it's hard going back to GTA3 after the improvements made in the subsequent games...

Still, a lot of people (especially young people who might be more eager to game) have Mac Laptops they haul around everywhere. Perfect for playing an old game. Perfect way for Rockstar to make a little bit of extra money. I wonder if they'll be priced accordingly... as you can buy them for PC for about $10!

Don't you mean the MS-Windows version? The Mac is capable of running GTA4 already, you just need to install MS-Windows. Porting these games to the iPad or iPhone4 (anyone seen Unreal Citadel) or Android for that matter, makes some sense. Not sure why they would bother porting to MacOS X

They'd probably port because...

... Mac users are, on average, more affluent than Windows users and Mac users are much more likely to want entertainment products, owing in part to its near absence from the corporate world.

Valve's recent port of Portal (also quite dusty) received 1.5 million downloads in the first week, though it was free. No doubt whatever back-end tools DMA used, which were multiplatform even at the time, have facilitated an OS X port for a negligible cost and they're hoping to generate a reasonable amount of new revenue without doing any substantial work while also dipping their toe in the Mac gaming waters.
