Apple has modified the iPhone SDK terms to allow lottery-style applications, so now you can lose your shirt from anywhere. Until now lottery addicts have been limited to applications that listed the winning numbers, or been forced to run up the browser to buy themselves a piece of the dream, but now lotteries and sweepstakes can …
"promotional sweepstake or contest" only
They don't allow gambling in most US states so they more than likely wont allow a true gambling app.
A promotional sweepstake or contest says to me that you arn't allowed to charge people to enter.
More signs of cultural gutterage making their way into popular society.
That goes along with the multitiude of those awful stripper/fortune telling/shopping channels on the high Sky channel numbers, along with the proliferation of UK supercasinos, and who can forget WeBuyAnyCar, and Cash4Gold 'scams' which end up virtually robbing the very poor (and idiotic) of their meagre posessions - "This guys a laff, he had over £400 in gold, and we gave him a tenner for them, its only fair cos he got the quick sale".
- Going Anon.
I'm taking the next space elevator off this damned rock.

So you buy the app for $x and then can run it in perpetuity with the chance of winning a grand every day?
Smart money is on buying the app today as the chances of winning each day will go down as more and more people buy it, however given a long enough timeline the probability of winning will tend towards 1.
Not sure how this company is going to make money, unless it's a scam. Either they need to ensure that 1000/x people buy the application every day of they need to expire the application and force people to rebuy it often enough that sales each day are above 1000/x
It does work.

Believe it. Nothing sells better than advertising you're giving way free money. The fact you have to pay a mere $1 for the chance to enter into this wonderful game is immaterial to the end users who have become so gamble crazy they just don't care anymore.
Where's the dollar sign and Katching! noise?
This will hardly open up the door to bookmakers, considering the US Laws on gambling.
A Paddy Power or Ladbrokes app would be sweet.
It won't bother me
My iPhone 3G very rarely works properly these days, the apps crash, the phone crashes when it rings, it's the worst PoS phone I've ever had. Roll on a decent retail version of Nexus.
I'm sure some iTard will be along shortly to tell you that their iPhone works fine and that you don't recognise a great device when you see one.
I'm /almost/ with you. I just missed the initial iPhone purchase.
I already paid mine when i bought an iphone.
Idea for an app
Picture this. A new app which displays a picture of a brick wall. Using the touch screen, you direct a stream of urine up the wall. For each squirt, you pay £1. You have a 1 in 1,000,000,000 chance of winning a tenner.
Yes, that's right, its the all new "Piss your money up the wall" app.
Want to deprive the wife and kids of housekeeping money? There's an app for that!
Good to get things into perspective
Considering what Apple won’t allow or approve, allowing for online gambling looks like a strang move ...
Seriously, what is Apple's problem?
Are Apple trying to make a point of showing us a distopian anarchic future? We already have pr0n apps cluttering up the appstore, now we'll get WIN!WIN!WIN! apps everywhere too.
At the very least could Apple create catergories for these - 'Pr0n' and 'Crap' for a start, or maybe just one catch-all category - 'SHITE'
