Thesp Kate Winslet has topped of "most desirable body" poll in which UK women voted wholeheartedly for traditional curves and kicked tanorexic stick insects firmly into touch. According to the Telegraph, the Titanic star polled 16 per cent of the votes from 2,000 mere mortal females, narrowly beating Kelly Brook into second spot …

We both like women with womens' bodies, not the bodies of half-starved chiuldren - it's only the women-hating fashion designers who are trying to make us believe that stick = sexy
(and a self assured attiude would be nice... maybe avoid the faux-stupidity that some seem to think is cute...)
... the votes just reflect the shapes of the electorate. They are 16X more likely to be a chubber than a rake. That Boyle singing woman from the x-jungle-dance would have won, but I bet she didn't get on the ballot. (Too famous and likely to sue).
I've always found the female form fascinating, and so have most of us, and for good reason. While it seems the author is fixated on air bags, the poll respondents were not. They took a more realistic and pre-twentieth century attitude. Real women have curves and hips. It seems to me, taking a quick gander, that those women at or near the bottom had rather boyish figures. I guess us fellas who re-call using the term broad in a positive light were referring to pelvic girth. For a visual reference see the rendition of Eve on the Cistine Chapel, or take a look at Venus de Milo. http://www.theregister.co.uk/Design/graphics/icons/comment/thumb_up_32.png
I didn't see titanic (see, there is a god!). So who is kate winslet that see should be on the list? Any other qualifications.
There are many gorgeous women whom we have never heard of; that is, no celeb status. So, to make this list requires a prerequisite of celebrity and to be gorgeous.
Um, Oscar winner for The Reader, star of Sense and Sensibility, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Enigma, Hamlet, must I go on... As the man said, if you need to be told this you have no business hanging around in Bootnotes.
Sure there are plenty of non-famous gorgeous women out there, but it won't make for a very useful list if everyone votes for their girlfriend
The fastionista s that control the fashion industry are mostly gay men, so i have always thought there is a correlation with the aim to make models look like adolescent boys.
Last time you pulled out this bit of tardery I asked you not to project your desire for adolescents onto gay man. I see you're still working on that.
It's funny how these putative the gay fashionistas aren't trying to turn the male models into adolescent boys ...
Not even a playmobil reconstruction -- complete with photoshopped distortions?
Bridget Regan might make the list. Here's to hoping!
I don't know some of the names, haven't been on television (Monty Python), but my vote is for ugly, since (old quote) ugliness lasts, but beauty fades.
Where's the pictures?
I mean, "IT Angle?".
Paris, because I know where that is.
I second that. My personal ideal model is of the Laetita Casta kind.
Walking coat hangers are not pleasant to look at, and if you ever touch one, all you feel is the bone. The only reason the fashionistas prefer them is because it takes less material to dress them up.
In other words, the whole fashion world is living in fantasy la-la land and has no actual interest in dressing women.
Which seems quite normal given the number of homosexuals that are rumored to be in that industry.
It is not the quantity of the material which is the problem, it is making it stick to the demented shape which has sprung out of the designer's mind. It is easy on a coat hanger. Quite difficult on Sophie Dahl.
make clothes look better, because they design dresses to look good on a hanger, and some of these models have a figure like coat hangar.
Girls with more roundness detract from the dress, though a well designed dress (which will look terrible on a hanger) brings out those curves.
A study found the sexiest waist to hip ratio to be ISTR 72%, and, personally that flare is the quintissential Icon of female-ness. It is demonstrably the expression of estrogen on the growing human, along with breasts, of course, but these days young men think breasts, even on the tiniest woman, should be the size of Aristocrat Canteloupes.
Elizabethan porn also talks about "Jubbies" (those dimples in the thighs now called cellulite) with a revered and sexciting connotation.
The ability of Northern European women to retain nutrition was a key survival trait. Reubens explains it better than I.
Paris Hilton because she looks better these days with a few more pounds, er kilos, er stone on her.
Can't stand anorexic stick women, all straight up and down. Curves are sexy, simple as, end of.
:( i was so disappointed, i hate IP
... prefer real women. Not plastic clones mass produced by Hollywood, fashion magazines and diet drug pushers.
....but the stick insectoids are among them.
Give me healthy jubbles any day!!
Dear AC, as a man I can tell you that a huge majority of us prefers women with some meat on their bones. And Kate Winslet is a fine, fine example of a woman.
... Megan Fox is a man!
It says so on the Weekly World News site so it must be true.
Don't forget the role of ALRIGHT magazine and the like with their pictures of "celebrity cellulite" and their praise for morons like Mylene "nothing wrong with putting on weight/look at me after my amazing diet!!!!!" Klass.
We can only hope that this shows that women are beginning to realise that it's OK to look like a human being and most men prefer real women to airbrushed stick-insects.
Personally, I just have to say "Wot, no America Ferrera?!?"
That's probably the shape most men prefer.
Mines the dirty mac.
As Bridget Jones' bottom, she showed considerable talent for playing English women.
C'mon, El Reg. Surely you can do better?
Designers of high fashion don't sell to the readers of Slimming World, AskMen.com, FHM or porno mags - their clientèle are not fat. The designers design their clothes for their target market and select models accordingly. The opinions of Yougov, Slimming World readers or the general population is entirely irrelevant to those involved.
Even the specialists in large sizes tend to select models smaller than their target market, because their target market don't actually want to look large.
What a nice change - women actually NOT voting for hideous stick insect figures! Mind you, they still are a bit barmy - voting Kate Winslett over Kelly Brook, are they mad!?!?!?
For many, many years, whenever I've discussed the figure issue with women from range of backgrounds and ages, I'm astonished to find it is them that think the stick is perfect, not us men. No matter how many times you tell them the majority of us prefer curves, they still insist on idolising such unattractive bints as Kate Moss. I have never found Ms Moss even remotely attractive and I could never understand how she climbed the heights of the fashion world. But I have consistently been told by women that they would die to look like Kate Moss - why? Maybe this poll shows the message is finally getting through, but I did notice the size of the poll group is very small.
a woman with an arse you can park your bike in and rest your pint on than some stick insect
id like a woman mind
cycle racks and tables are a lot less likely to slap you round the face and better designed for the job.
Risking the Dominatrix's wrath....
'Cos a woman is also more likely to cook you dinner, hoover the lounge and then hoover you than a table or a cycel rack!
They are, of course, also much more likely to form a lasting and committed relationship between equals where us men get to appreciate the true beauty of the female mind as well as the female form!
/do you think the Dom fell for the last bit?
And a happy new year to you too. It's GREAT to be back. Such wit. Such insight. Such accuracy.
