Companies develop new models. Radial new concept.
The first oblique references to the next generation of Apple iPhones have been found in the wild. According to a report by MacRumors, usage logs that provide developers with information on which devices are using their software have begun to include references to "iPhone3,1." There is - as of today - no iPhone3,1. The current …
Could be a test handset for the rumored T-mobile iPhone release. Stands to reason as they use different frequencies than AT&T for their 3G coverage in the US.

Well my contract with o2 is up for renewal in sept 2010 and this time I will get an iphone so hopefully I can get a nice new model with 64gb or more of storage! I really regret getting an XDA Serra last time although the latest ROM update seems to solve a lot of the issues I was having.
Another bling phone to add to the steaming pile.
On (or around) the day of release of the 3GS, i predicted the release of a follow up in roughly 12 months time, in keeping with the 'we have released a new phone at the same time for the last 3 years'
Can i have a medal, or at least a cookie??
I'd deliberately start seeding new version numbers, just to see to how far I could go before they grew wise to it, and as added bonus it would obscure what was really happening.
That could be months worth of fun..
I'm sure it's easier with a jailbroken iPhone, but surely you could do this kind of thing in Opera or, indeed, Firefox with an extension?
I recall sending OS identification strings for MacOS9, Windows 3.11 and Windows 7 running IE8 to the remote access portal of the firm I work for during the testing phase to confuse the guy who read the logs -- it even worked when I was showing up in the logs as "Hello Mike!".
This is the iPhone that runs Windows 3.1
I thought i'd seen a lot more sales droids with smug grins recently they must have heard the news........
Portability will see Android surpass the iBling within a few short years.
That and developers getting more and more pissed with Apple's control process.
Dear El Reg admins
Is there a user preference to ignore all articles containing that f*cking annoying, pathetic, numpty word 'fanbois'? (Or better yet, a way of globally ignoring anything by Rik Myslewski?)
The idiocy of the term does my brain pan in, day after day after day after day after day......
Especially since it should really be phan-bois. I assume this is what's annoying you :-)
Heh, went and looked around all of the major carriers here in Oz when the recent iPhone release came out.
Even though the iPhone has a 12 month product refresh cycle (i.e. a new phone each year) ALL of the carriers only offer 2 year contracts. Pretty retarded.
So, didn't get an iPhone.
this is on purpose.
Now you have a trapeed demographic of iPhone junkies coming off two year contracts WANTING the latest version. this gives you a rolling user base who need their next fix of capability.
The crippleware built in and slowly releasing features that have been around for years with other vendors creates pent up demand.
PH even she can see this coming.
I have a way round the 12 month refresh.
I have a iphone 3gs and the wife got my old 3g so thats due to end in august on 02 network so I get the lastest iphone then and she then gets the 3gs LOL
Sorted, I'm more than happy and she has to make do....
"must refer to the next iPhone that Apple has coming down the pike"
Surely a Red Herring.
Can't decide whether to vote up or down.
Dear Reg, can we please have a "groan" button?
"Don't tell him your model number, Pike!"
18 month contract here... where the hell does that leave me???
i guess wondering if i enjoy cheap contract for a few months waiting for the next model, or get the new one imediately.... hopefully a decient camera + flash. and well flash.! will be included.
(oh and 1tb ram please,, free GPS, and lots + lots of porn apps...... Hmmmmm free gps.!!)
I Love Steve..! him + Bill + linus, should all combine DnA and have a baby product...!
