back to article Al Gore entertains the supercomputer troops

Former vice president and Nobel Prize winner Al Gore did his self-deprecating politician and climate change champion routine as a keynote for the HPC (high performance computing) faithful at the SC09 trade show in Portland, Oregon, this morning and did his best to get the HPC community fired up about the job they need to do to …

    Why...

Why do we need a supercomputer to tell us we can stop emitting carbon if, failing all else, we replace all the fossil-fuel power generating plants by nuclear power plants, and then convert all home heating (and other energy use) to electricity?

Of course, this still does leave airplanes, ships, tractors, and cars.

    WTF?

    Low bit rate brainiums

"But, the problem is that the human brain has a very low bit rate even if it has a very high resolution. "That has profound implications for how we interface with the incredibly powerful tools that you continue to create," Gore said to the HPC crowd."

...And as much of a joke that is Al Gore, his brain has arguably the lowest bitrate in the industry.

    That is all.

    Trees

I don't know that the manbearpig climate change BS is really true, but if he's saying we should plant more trees, why the hell not? He may not have his facts together but that should not diminish any sensible piece of advice he spouts.

    Go away Gore

Super computer makers should do what? Gore is a self interested capitalist and nothing more.

He owns interests in several companies poised to take advantage of the "global warming" propaganda machine. Clowns like this we can do without.

Perhaps recovering politician in his case means that he wont admit his Nazi party membership.

I don't know what it is about him but he just seems to speak jibberish.

    Nice One, Al.

"Supercomputing is key, a very important tool. It has become a third basic form of reasoning, alongside inductive reasoning and deductive reasoning, and is in a sense the combination of the two."

Ah Yes, Ye Ole Quantum Bit Processing Path for Models into Phorms and Phishes for Inclusive Executive Reasoning, Induced with a Phorm and Deduced in a Phish.

Al Gore - The Flim-Flam Man!

Al Gore is now "drilling for oil" in the HPC arena...

    Makes Gordon Brown Look Good

If you want to find out what a visionary Al Gore is, read his old book "Earth in the Balance" from the late 80s/early90s. Wrong, all wrong, and completely deconstructed in P.J. O'Rourke's "All the Trouble in the World". O'Rourke describes Gore as a "watermelon: green on the outside, red in the middle". I've yet to find one shred of evidence to disprove that label.

You are bashing the wrong ex-VP

    > This twit is the same man whom spelt potato with an E!

That was ex-VP Dan Quayle, not ex-VP Al Gore.

    > He visited our Island (American Samoa) and commented,

    > "They look like a bunch of happy campers"

And that was also Dan Quayle, not Al Gore.

    > Al Gore's highly questionable financial ties which enable him

    > to personally profit from the Global Warming Scare

Those "financial ties" are 100% legitimate investments. If Gore invested in companies NOT involved in green technologies, you would bash him for being a hypocrite and not putting his money where his mouth is.
