When is the last time you SAW any American made goods? Try to find something. I have an old Mirror drive door mac made in the USA "with Chinese components doubtless". But domestic goods?
I live in a dairy state, yet melamine contaminated milk from CHINA is turning up in things here. Its at least a decade too late, you can't boycott China anymore, there are too many things you will need there simply isn't an alternative to, no matter your income.
American cars? Canadian, Japanese and Chinese parts, with transmissions from who knows where and wiring from Mexico. And any electronics except for a few stereo components for millionaires and their trendy condos. Televisions? If you are going to buy a retro Predicta, otherwise, fat chance. Clothes? If they are hand made maybe. Appliances? Don't make me laugh. Too many people loved their $50 microwave ovens for anyone to even try to make them here, and most of our trusted old brands are now stick on labels for generic Chinese crap. And if the quality stinks, nobody cares because its so easy and cheap just to go out and buy another.
And without any decent jobs how do you BUY the few remaining domestic products? My Job died in the dotcom bubble, I don't go to Walmart to buy Chinese shoes because I want to, I go to Walmart and buy Chinese shoes because I have no other choice. I'm wearing an American made watch, its 40 years old. The companies watches are all made in Switzerland now.
Glad I bought some good British made Doc Martens while I still had the chance, its going to be a long cold winter. My last good pair of American made boots is 11 years old and only taken out of for special occasions, "at the time they cost as much as a used car" So Good Luck with that boycott, its like shopping at the co-op, nice feeling of being in touch with the community, just be glad you still can afford to "conscience shop". For most of us its not a choice anymore.
