Could they not have re-asigned at least some of those landline jobs to their wireless division??
BT does that in their 'transition centre' - its better for all and cheaper to the biz to move staff around rather than fire the landline peeps and hire new ones for the wireless division!
How the hell does your headcount rise when you're firing 8k peeps?!?!?
