DHS tests bomb-proof CCTV by blowing up bus
Depressing news for extremist privacy lovers today: a cheap CCTV camera which can reliably survive a large bomb explosion with video recordings intact has been developed. It's no longer possible to cover one's tracks by simply blowing everything up. News of the new cheapo bombproof surveillance cams comes to us courtesy of - you …
I guess they'll just nick the camera
If the terrorists don't just steal the camera, they'll start using EMP weapons and trash electronics for miles around.
Been done!
>"The clued-up villain of the future, operating in public spaces, may soon start to find that smoke bombs or other obscurants are a necessary part of his armoury. "
AKA "The Stainless Steel Rat", by Harry Harrison. A hugely enjoyable series of books.
Awesome
We can all die, but the instruments of the surveillance state are immortal.
I'm so happy to live in such wonderful times.
@ Awesome
I can't tell you how happy I am that my murderer *may* be found to improve police (and thus government) statistics.
I'm so happy that I can almost ignore the fact that it does f*ck all to PREVENT the crime, so it contributes nothing to my feeling of safety - which I assume to be intentional.
It's rather a win-win: keeping the citizen scared whilst pretending to do something. Quality effort.
Err, it's not CCTV
CCTV involves the signal being displayed on a monitor and/or being transmitted - the hint is in the name.
It's a bomb-proof video camera/recorder.
Call yourself a technical publication? I suggest you shuffle off to the Daily Mail. Shame on you.
huh
isnt this just an SDcard With a Metal case?
Go DHS, a million $ well spent.
Title is required? I think not...

Exactly like gun-control, eh?
I wonder
Will the recordings include an option to rate them? And does the best suicide bomber win a prize?
Time Travel?
"The collection of forensic data from tragic events like bombings helps us develop strategies to prevent the crime in the first place,"
But by preventing the crime there would be no evidence to collect, so they would be unable to prevent the crime, which would result in the crime happening again, so then they would have the evidence to prevent the crime...
Unless we were in a universe resistant to changes in the time-line, in which case the event would happen anyway and these cameras would be useless.
They haven't thought this plan through at all...
No Such Thing as Bomb-Proof
Just depends how big or powerful the explosives are.
Solution, go find a problem!
How many cctv cameras do we have?
How many bombings do we have?
What's the cost per prevented bombing?
Who is picking up the tab?
When is the spraycan/ski mask/hoodie going to be banned?
Do we need to outlaw suicide bombers?
All the best thought control

Hoodies are now illegal. Problem Solved.
@AC - 13:59 GMT Exactly like gun-control, eh?
And knife control; and speed control, and pedestrians off the zebra. Just you stop breaking the law and we won't NEED all those extra pesky laws.
