back to article Oz sex trade to spank parliamentary prudes

Australians are having a Sex Party – and before you all start sniggering at the back, this time they could be serious. Because depending on your point of view, this is either a cynical use of politics by an industry worried about its bottom line or the beginning of a fightback against government that has lost touch with ordinary …

Well ...

"A number of Australian newspapers are regarding the future fortunes of the Sex Party as being an effective referendum on the government’s proposals on internet censorship. Whether it will have any usefulness beyond that single issue remains to be seen."

As opposed to the governing single-issue parties (such as "perceived security at all costs") ??

I think it's a good thing - maybe it'll serve as a good reality check and counterpoint to the idiots currently infesting government (not just Australia, it's a worldwide epidemic of stupids, false morals and tightarsed morons)

Posted AC for obvious reason :D

Did you catch Jacqui Latest?

In equation form it's.

1) Sex+money = prostitution

2) prostitution + pimp = trafficking

3) pimp = john

4) Prosecute John

I knew emigrating was a good move

Now to complete the visa process....

This gives me some faith in humanity. I'm not a purchaser of porn, but I couldn't agree more about the government of most western nations being both out of touch with the populace and primarily interested in interfering with the lives of responsible and allegedly free adults.

I hope the Aussies consider this not only a good protest vote, but a chance to put in a government that isn't a slave to the prudes and puritans in society.

Why don't they make the parliament watch Sirens instead

Nothing new here.

Their parliament should be made to watch Sirens repeatedly until they learn the lesson of how idiotic does a prude look against the background of other people (even not as "liberated" as in Sirens).

Having digitally mastered clips where heads of prominent MPs are mastered on top of Hew Grant and shown to their electorate may also be a good idea.

The Liberated Party...

had a similar agenda IIRC, They stood in the 2001 (?) general election for one of the Northampton boroughs, the press jumped on the fact that the candidate had appeared in a hardcore porn film (oooh, scary!). They're long gone now though, I don't even think they got their deposit (f'nar!) back.

well

"those who are worried about keeping their jobs have always to think about what the Daily Mail reaction would be."

sums up in 1 sentence why I have completely lost faith in our elected "leaders" (leaders are suppose to lead not follow)

There are loads of sex parties

it is just they don't invite you :)

No, I am sure they do, we obviously just don't swing in the same circles.

But with all seriousness, there are many sex political parties around the globe, it is quite an obvious one to do, it is kinda fundamental to the human race's survival and of course it is rather good fun, if you don't count the friction burns. Oh ok, even with the friction burns.

So, we need one in the UK, I say we go for the fetish look, with a little bit of cheekyness thrown in for good measure, and let's take this country over.

And it is not like we don't have a channel setup as well, which is very dull at the moment, that would get the viewing figures.

I think I have found my political party, the UK Sex Party, right where do I join up.

Those who are worried about keeping their jobs...

... have always to think about what the Daily Mail reaction would be...

Which is a perfect example of why the Lords should not be an elected body, otherwise they'll just end up pandering to the bigots in the media.

Meanwhile I'd just like to say "Bonzer!" to the Aussies and don't let a bunch of sad wowsers get you down!

The issue is less the politicians...

than the media that continually espouses Victorian standards. At least when we find out a pollie is having an affair over here (in Australia) we all pretty much ignore it. The media (predominantly run by that great American Murdoch) are the ones calling for the banning of everything - possibly because they're losing market share hand over fist and a good beat-up is easier/cheaper to write when you've sacked all the actual journalists.

Well, well, well

I think our antipodean brothers, sisters, aunties, uncles and cousins should step back . . . take a deep breath . . . and look back into their recent past and ask themselves . . . .

. . . "Did we do the right thing when we voted NO about if we wanted to become a republic?"

My honest opinion? No you didn't!!!

BTW I'm over here, not over there . . . Wish I was but unfortunately I'm not!!

The reason I feel you made the wrong decision is pretty obvious really . . . You are all starting to feel the 'Pinch' from your Government (snigger . . . Sorry, Oops UK.Gov I meant to say) in the same way we have felt for the last 10 to 15 years or so . . . and then some!!

The sooner you cast aside any and all links with the 'Fatherland' that you call home . . . the better off you will be . . . believe me!!

For all those who don't believe, I would ask this question of you . . .

"If the sun shone as bright, the sea was as blue and the days were as long as where you are now . . . OVER HERE . . . would you come back?"

All those who answered 'NO' . . . Thank you for having retained what you were born with . . . Common Sense!!

All those who answered 'YES' . . . Please form an orderly queue whilst we take a DNA swab, Iris scan, finger prints, stool and urine sample, etc . . .

"What do you need those for, Sir?"

"So we can lose them for all and sundry to use them as they see fit!"

DO YA STILL WANNA COME HOME??!! IF YA DO THEN YA WON'T HAVE TO LEAVE OZ IF YA CARRY ON THE WAY YA GOING . . . DIGGERS!!

re Well well well

What on earth are you nattering on about? Can't see the relevance to this story, unless you fear that Australia may catch a dose of UK and European liberalism (one of the few areas not yet as bad in UK as in Australia).

300,000 votes?

The Australian Senate is not a one vote one value establishment. A voter who moves from New South Wales to Tasmania increases their voting power by a factor of 12. Try 30,000 except that Tasmania used to elect Brian Harradine a Catholic activist and is probably too conservative to elect an anti censorship senator.

Still it is going to take me a full 15 minutes to establish a proxy account to get round Kevin07's (PM's) stupid censorship attempt but it may cost me some cents and some speed.

Repressed ?

I thought prostitution was legal in many areas of Australia - e.g. Victoria ?

If that's the case, you can act things out for real but not watch them?
