Rude financial firms to pay, Ombudsman vows

Delays, rudeness and poor claims handling are grounds for ordering financial services firms to compensate customers, the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) has said. Payments can be ordered in addition to other remedies. Whenever a customer complaint is upheld by the FOS, it will consider whether to make an additional award for …

It isn't 1st April!

IMO it is unreasonable for the FOS to apply penalties for "rudeness". Requiring the Firm to prominently and promptly publish the FOS findings - so punters can make their own judgement on whether or not to do business - should be sufficient. This sounds very much like an administrative tax by the FOS. It will result in more argument and debate than constructive movement to improve firms' performance.

IMO the FOS should concentrate on getting it's judgement period down rather than wasting time thinking about ways it can "fine" companies.

Hahahahahaaaa haha. Hahaha

OK, sorry, hang on while I catch my breath. The Ombudsman? Haheha hihihi. Snort. Hah. Sorry. Pff. Whoehahahaaa. I have had them sit on cases for 6 months or more, only to come up with answers which indicated they hadn't bothered to read the complaint so they had to re-process it to actually come to the answer a 6 year old would have seen straight off.

I don't see "rude" as a main problem (you could close most of the call centers if that was an issue). I see not going after those who are blatantly breaking the law (unless you are really, really persuasive) as a more important issue, but somewhere there exists a "resource shortage" leading to 6 months or longer waiting times.

I have dealt with the Ombudsman enough to write a book about them. It was only when I started to ask how their work is audited that they started paying attention, so I am overjoyed they are focusing their feeble resources on something less challenging, like how you prove that someone is rude. Oh yes, rock on. The world will change now.

Unbelievable.

Paypal?

ANY chance this can apply to Paypal? They count as a financial services provider as far as I'm concerned, and I've never experienced such delays, rudeness and poor claims handling as I've received from this laughable excuse of a business. Seeing as I've personally lost many hundreds of pounds through fraud which Paypal could have quickly and easily rectified, but chose to ignore, I seriously feel they owe me compensation.

And If....

...you get through to a call centre in Delhi and get "Mahatma Kote" as your customer liason buddy, can you claim for them knowing fuc*k-all English???

300 quid for having to live in a place with no basic facilities is a bit lame. Happened to me once - had the "Remontti Monsters" (big f-off builders c/w builders cleavages) in unnanounced one day, (they'd sent me letters, but they were in Finnish, and at the time I didn't understand)

Got home one day to my rented apartment. Buggers had lobbed my toilet out of the 4th floor window into a skip. Then the shower, bathroom tiles, bathroom floor, kitchen sink, water off...

"WTF do I do now???" I exclaimed. "Oh, no sweat, there's *one* shower and *one* toilet in the basement, and Pizzahut's next door".

For a smegging 2 months????? 25 people??? Nice.

Mine's the one with the turban in the pocket.
