A fraction of the capacity of SATA and 20x the cost (£ per Gb). SAS isn't for everyone, especially if your don't have deep IT pockets. But ironically the lower power consumption and greater drive density per 1U makes SAS cheaper to run than SATA if rack capacity and power consultion are an issue (which they are if you use a commercial data centre).

I think the title of this review should be amended! The Sidecar is a product of AMCC Storage 3ware and this article has no actual reference to this product as it is soley about the DELL Powervault.

What else can we expect indeed - obviously 5 letters are just too much effort, rather like dividing 21 by 2 - come on, do you seriously think we are that innumerate that you need to help us out? Hardly rocket science is it?
Besides, no matter how stupid you are, the average bloke can count to 21 - 10 fingers, 10 toes and so on...

If you look at the tech specs on the Dell website you will see that it is a 2U high enclosure that holds 24 2.5-inch drives.
The Reg article states it as a 1U enclosure holding 24 2.5-inch drives.
That makes it unimpressive as several manufacturers and even bare chassis makers have a 2U/24 drive 2.5-inch solution.
