Tiscali sets 200,000 TV subscriber target

Tiscali's boss has set ambitious targets for its TV over broadband service, after the firm's latest results showed it has been losing subscribers. Reuters reports that the Italian-owned firm wheeled out UK chief executive Mary Turner to reassure investors that its plans are on track. She said the firm is aiming for 200,000 TV …

Tiscali broadband sucks.

In my experience anyway, 50% of the time, it was at dial-up speeds. 10% of the time it didn't work at all. The rest, it worked ok, kinda.

I know this article is about their tv thingy, but just felt like I had to add that.

@ Tiscali BB sucks

yep, although I just rang to get my MAC code and they (a) lowered my rental to £15, and (b) upgraded me to 8Mb/s true unlimited* while (c) not insisting on restarting a contract. Oh, and they gave me a tenner to boot.

Still a pants connection, will see if changing DNS improves things

*: The nice fella assured me that they only began monitoring on this tariff if I did 10GB/day Am waiting to see what the new Ts&Cs say

Um....

If Tiscalli TV is ready for expansion, why are so many folks on digitalspy winging that video quality has dropped?

Homechoice -> Tiscali. Hmm...

After gradually rebranding the service bit by bit, us ex-Homechoice customers are finally being migrated over to true Tiscali TV in the New Year. I have to confess I'm a little bit worried. The broadband contention ratio will increase from 20:1 to 50:1, which is going to slow up Internet speeds, and as one poster has already stated some are saying the picture quality from the Homechoice ATM-based network was better.

Time will tell.

Well..

.. I left after 3 years as the service was getting worse and worse

The service is great..

For some reason there is a lot of anti Tiscali-TV propaganda going about.

If you you look at digitalspy there are one or two people with problems, but line faults occur on all ISP's

I've been a Homechoice customer for years and the service is great. They are slow to bring out upgrades but when they do they work. BT Vision is a nightmare in comparison, it often simply doesn't work. They have launched a PVR service (to complement the Replay TV service) very discreetly and it looks great. Download speed and pings (8ms to BBC) are good, no caps or service limits and unlimited music videos (not PPV). Its also cheaper than VM and has Sky. Tiscali don't seem to advertise the service, they don't pre-announce anything either which is dull but at least they can't be accused of failing to deliver promises.

Tiscali is HORRENDOUS BB

Run, don't walk away from Tiscali. I have recently been migrated from Pipex to Tiscali, on the 8 Mbyte super-premium plan...and service has become abysimal. Want to watch a YouTube video? Er, get ready for pauses, glitches, and just unmade connections.

If I try to download ANYTHING, I can actually watch the sawtooth wave forms of the traffic shaping cutting in, routinely. On an 8Mb "unlimited" connection that I rarely download anything that large on.

Pipex was SOOO much better, I miss them. I may have to try BT soon enough...
