Google is pushing for net neutrality. Apple has a phone. What would MS want with the spectrum? Surely, giving the Zune the ability to share music across the world isn't worth $4.6+ billion. MS could certainly win a bidding war between the three, and still have almost as much cash left as the other two currently have in their coffers. However, it has the least reason to do so.
Would it be worth the hassle for them to become an ISP in a spectrum that has a mandate to be open?

and save the bother of rehashing the article?

Why don't Google, Apple and probably MS all sod off, deal with their core businesses and leave the comms to proper telcos.
Obviously as I live in the UK, this has no bearing on me, maybe I'd bother to have a proper opinion, if I lived in the US.

Much cheaper to buy or tie up with an existing network. Depending on the conditions of the bid, the costs of building and managing the network could dwarf the those of buying the spectrum. And setting up the network takes time.
But the business model doesn't fit either. At least Google has ads to sell, what would Apple actually sell over the network? Of course, you can bid for spectrum in the hope of getting taken over but that wouldn't seem to make sense for Apple either. The MVNO is probably where they want to be to maintain brand identity.

"doesn't exactly play to its strengths - hardware and software innovation"
HA HA! The ONLY innovation crApple have EVER made is to sell the iPhoney to iLEMMINGS for $600 when it costs LESS THAN $200 to make. Man, your so STUPID!!1! And I'M SO ANGRY!!1!
And don't start lecturing me about who invented the Windows (I know quite a bit about computers, like how passwords are reset etc - Admin for a School)

they would probably use it for a registration corridor
1. buy m$ whatever
2. link to wireless network
3. register product and access downloads
4. 1 week before release crack is worked out

It would seem Freaky Webster is giving us a little information about himself ... he knows how passwords are reset!
Why so angry, Freaky? Pills not working?
