By the looks of the T&Cs on the front page, whoever blew the lid on this could be liable to perjury.

> "the soldier's conduct does not reflect the values we adhere to in the Army"
(Thinks about Abu Ghraib etc...)
Nah, it's just *too* easy...!

The same division nailed for wanton prisoner abuse at Mercury base near Fallujah feels "dishounoured" because one of their members did something legal with his member. Up is down, black is white.

...this certain soldier was found having sex in the gay porn, who identified him...by watching the gay porn?
Isn't this kind of like telling the police that someone is growing drugs while you are sitting there consuming the same drugs???

"Fort Bragg
Know Before You Go......"
Say's it all really...
Ok.... getting my coat...
Posted Friday 27th July 2007 12:47 GMT
What's 'pandering'? Isn't that 'gratuitously agreeing with'?
As in 'yes, yes, YES ooooh YES!"?
I'm not wearing a coat, I'll just go.

This means that they actually are "...hot soldiers having steamy sex.." somehow this disturbs me. This was the only area of the media where I was expecting to be lied to.
Next you'll be telling me all of those Sweedish plumbers, who came round to "fix the washing machine" really did and the steamy shagging and film crew were just a conincidence.
Posted Friday 27th July 2007 13:26 GMT
that recruitment campaign takes on a whole new meaning!
Posted Friday 27th July 2007 13:26 GMT
The question has to be asked, is the issue the army have because it was gay or because it was pornographic.
Both are legal acts in the US presumably so whats the beef?
If the issue was the homosexual nature of the grumble vid then isnt that unjust prejudice.. but then it is the US, the nation of the free..
Posted Friday 27th July 2007 13:49 GMT
I would guess that the most immediate cause of his dismissal was for participating in homosexual activity, pornographic or otherwise (remember, you can't be kicked out of the Army for *being* gay - only for actual and verifiable homosexual acts. If a homosexual wants to join the military they can. They just have to be chaste for the duration of their contract. Look what Clinton's "don't ask don't tell" policy hath wrought).
However, based on what happened to an Air Force TSGT recently who was kicked out for posing in Playboy, even if the gay ban were removed and homosexuals were allowed to serve openly in the military, he would have been chaptered for some sort of honor violation for appearing in a pornographic video.
My question is - if a heterosexual male soldier was found to have appeared in a hetero porn video, would they prosecute it as vigorously as they do gay porn or a female soldier appearing in a porn video? I think not, but I'm just a little cynical about senior brass' willingness to use their moral reasoning skills.

when he talks about gays in the military, as will all his other stuff, very amusing
Posted Friday 27th July 2007 15:11 GMT
What does this has to do with IT????????? Are you calling us queers????
Posted Friday 27th July 2007 16:26 GMT
first off in the US military you can not be filmed wearing your uniform with out permission. Even if you are retired that still can bring legal actions against you.
"The question has to be asked, is the issue the army have because it was gay or because it was pornographic.

Not in the US military. When yo sign up you do give up certain rights. that's why you are referred to as property of uncle sam
being filmed while having sex is no no. Thats why there was a charge of having sex for money while being filmed. HE would of gotten booted for hetro porn
Posted Friday 27th July 2007 17:48 GMT
Im suprised they didn't just boot him for "Conduct Unbecoming". Which could potentially see him being court martialled and demoted, fined, imprisoned in a Military Prison, and/or dishonourably discharged for acting in a manner that would bring disrepute to the Armed Forces he was a part of.
Posted Friday 27th July 2007 17:48 GMT
The US Army does vigorously prosecute all flavors of this sort of violation. It is a direct violation of the UCMJ (Uniform Code of Military Justice) that applies to all US servicemen and women. That is the higher standard that those that volunteer for the US services are held to. The hetero male variety just doesn't make the news. It's just not controversial enough, or it doesn't involve a cute babe that can be shown to viewers to boost ratings, newsstand sales, or page hits.
What does this have to do with IT?
Gay porn.
Internet.
Two great tastes that go great together!
There is your IT angle. (I know it's a stretch, but this is El Reg and they are flexible like that, providing talking points for the Pub.)

Preacher is right, we don't have that liberty. The UCMJ is still largely based on values that were established way back in the day. Homosexual relations are prohibited (though that will only get you an administrative discharge I believe) where pornographic acts in uniform can potentially net you prison time, though usually you'll just get anywhere from an Other Than Honorable discharge to a Dishonorable Discharge.
Truth is, he's getting a lot more punishment over making pornographic materials. Plenty of people each year in the armed forces are discharged for having 'discovered' themselves. I do wonder why those tarts in congress don't change the policy though. It's not like they properly reflect the old values anymore, so why do we?

To the questioners of why the man was discharged; was is because he was gay or because he did porn. The answer is either and both. Some of you may, or may not, recall Febuary's issue of Playboy this year featuring a US Air Force Training Instructor for Lackland AFB(Air Force Basic Training) featuring her in and out of her uniform. She was booted out of the Air Force for this.
So to an extent, it really is because he brought dishonor upon the military name by participating in adult entertainment videos, which is covered in the UCMJ as "conduct unbecoming" (And for the joke: But I bet he was becoming in the video. Becomings lots of times. Possibly on someone's face..).
However, the military also has the 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' policy which he sort of blew all to hell(shit, I'll get my coat...) with his open preformance in a gay porn. You can be discharged from the military for being homosexual. Like it or not, that's the way it works.
Now, when you combine the two, it's pretty much a given that he got the boot. So again the answer: Either, or both.

First of all, it's not a grunt. That would be a Marine.
Second of all, she got a reduction in grade and a general discharge. Which I guess is what a two star gets when he catches the clap.
Third of all, yes, you surrender all of your rights when you join the military.
Fourth of all, "conduct unbecoming" only applies to commissioned officers (conduct unbecoming an officer).
Fifth of all, it is actually Uniform Code of Marsupial Justice.

I have a sneaking suspicion that whoever runs that site have just had a major credibility hike: they really ARE military men!
Ker-ching!
Oh, and I bow to all of you coat-wearers for better puns than I ever would have been able to come up with.

Say , isn't Ft Bragg where they train both the elite Green Beret and the home of the US Army unit called PSYOP ! It is also where they train future torturers of the innocent and oppressed from friendly overseas military dictatorships like Somoza of the old born to rule mob! , from Nicaragua(evicted by an army of unruly illiterate peasants=not very bright are the torturers who didn't see that one coming and their bully master who ran away like a craven coward!) , Mexico(one party rule country figuratively speaking) Noriega's Panama , the evil officers deeply involved in Argentina's dirty war against innocent civilians 1976-83 . Other assorted evil wanking dictators like General Pinochet's best torturers in Chile's war of self oppression ,and finally where certain Greek Army Officers who are now permanent residents for life in a prison called "Kordyallos" received their basic torture 101 training !
Yes many a noted torturer from US backed military dictatorships dictatorships were able to learn that trade from the superior US forces Instructors over the years , I suppose one of the few countries in South America to avoid that trap was Costa Rica , because it has no Army of sorts to train!
Yes , such an eviction ,could literally explain why they don't want any pansies and wall flowers in residence as the boys who run the school of torture , don't want any girls amongst them so as to speak!

If a member of the military (or a military member) contracted the clap (as opposed to being applauded) during a porn shoot, erm, filming, would he be likely to get a dishonorable discharge?

Easiest way out of the clusterf*ck that is the War on Terra' (as Georgie pronounces it, now it all makes sense) is to pretend to be gay.
